This is a sub-page of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.
Various strings not only from the first game are still present within the games files, but also various strings that are only in this game as well... there's quite a bit of reading to do here!
Unused Private Play AI Names#
Certain variants that do not spawn in Private Play have unused names in case they were to appear. Due to these characters not appearing in any of the character sets, the names go unused.
Variant |
Unused AI Names (separated by dashes) |
|---|---|
Unicorn Chomper |
Unicorn - Cousin B |
Disco Chomper |
Dancy - Jiggly |
Iron Citron |
Iron Round - Legendary Citron - LC-1000 - Unstoppable Orange |
Computer Scientist |
ASCII Madness - Monochrome Mayhem |
Toxic Brainz |
Toxic Man! - Revenge of Toxicity - Noxious Nomad - Wholesome Grim |
Early Mission Names#
Several of the Story Mode missions had their names changed during development. Not all names are available, as these early names are pulled from unused strings that were left over, and only exist for zombie missions. Some of these names imply different ordering of certain missions, as each string mentions the mission code within it.
Old Name |
Final Name |
Notes |
|---|---|---|
Top Secret |
No Baloney, No Problem! |
None |
Flower Power |
Ancient Knowledge |
This name seems to be mismatched with the current placement of the mission "Yuck!" Further evidence to this is that, internally, the mission uses a prototype prefab as its name, hinting towards it possibly being made later. |
What's the Zombish word for friend? |
Yuck! |
This mission may have possibly been different earlier in development, as this name has nothing to do with the final quest placement. |
19 Imps and Counting |
Imp Roundup |
None |
I need a vacation... |
Steve-cation |
None |
Brainvengers, Assemble! |
The League of Awesome |
The old name is a reference to the Avengers |
No Autographs, Please |
The Bean Situation |
This name is rather confusing as it makes no mention of the Super Bean boss fought during the mission. No remnants of if this mission was different before release exist internally. |
Gray's Anatomy |
Hitting a Snag |
According to Chassel, one of the developers of the game, said on Reddit that the Shark stuck in the side of the boat in Captain Deadbeard's ship was originally named Grayson before being renamed to Snaggles, explaining the old name. |
Deadbeard's Big Surprise |
Ol' Deadbeard's Big Surprise |
Very minor difference, only having "Ol'" added to the beginning of the name. |
Booty Call |
Gold Rush |
None |
Unused Special Waves/Challenge Waves/Boss Waves#
There are several string ID's related to special waves that don't go used at all within the garden and/or graveyard ops gamemodes. Some of these are from the first game, but there are others that depicted, possibly interesting enemy combinations.
String |

|---|---|
SPECIAL WAVE - LEGION OF BOOM |

SPECIAL WAVE - THE PYRE PRINCE |
Special wave featuring the Prye Prince, a centurion mini boss. |
SPECIAL WAVE - NOT YOUR GRANDPA |
I... we're gonna be real with you we don't actually know what this would've been. Most likely an inside joke from the dev team. (NOTE: If asked I can prove this string exists) |
SPECIAL WAVE - THE DINO KING |
Special wave featuring the Dino King, a Paleontologist mini boss. |
SPECIAL WAVE - THEY HUNGER |
Food themed special wave, all enemies wear food related hats. |

SPECIAL WAVE - THE ELDER KING |
Special wave featuring the elder king, a Golf Star mini boss. |
SPECIAL WAVE - DINO DNA |
Most likely a special wave featuring Paleontologists & Archeologists. |
SPECIAL WAVE - THE ROYAL GUARD |
Given this string is also in the first game, this is likely a mini boss that was scrapped. |
SPECIAL WAVE - BRICK LAYERS |
Likely meant for brick theme'd enemies but none exist outside of cosmetics. |
SPECIAL WAVE - FROM THE DEEP |
Probably based around variants that involve sea based wildlife like Marin Biologists, S.H.R.Imps, & Captain Sharkbites. |
SPECIAL WAVE - THE NEW KIDS |
Most Likely a special wave dedicated to the new classes since one exists for all of the old zombie classes. |
SPECIAL WAVE - CONE COMPANY |
A special wave dedicated to nothing but cone heads. Was in the first game but its wave has been removed, but oddly the plant counterpart to this does exist. |
SPECIAL WAVE - SAFETY FIRST |
Safety themed wave. All enemies wear safety themed cosmetics. |
SPECIAL WAVE - THE FAST & FLABBERGASTED |
Likely to be a speed based special wave given an unused buff exists that suggests all enemies spawned would've had it. |
SPECIAL WAVE - REGAL REJECTS |
Uncertain what this one could've been. |
SPECIAL WAVE - SCI-FI ACTION THEATRE |
Sci-fi themed wave where all enemies had futuristic cosmetics. |
SPECIAL WAVE - THE GARBAGE KING |
Special wave featuring the Garbage King, a Sanitation Expert mini boss. |
SUPER TOMBSTONE WAVE |
A Super boss wave from the first game that primarily spawned tombstones with occasional coffin zombies. 3 always spawned when the wave first started. Restoring the right connections can allow these to become possible once again. |
Hunt the Chieftains |
A challenge wave that composed of hunting down 3 specific enemies known as "Chieftains". Was replaced by hunt the champions |

Chomp Thing Zoom Upgrade Description |
A description for a chomp thing zoom upgrade... a spray character. Also doesn't exist. |
Armor Chomper Zoom Upgrade Description |
We're not joking, they actually made strings for chompers to have zoom upgrades... we wonder if its implied that they were going to grant him a ranged attack that wasn't goop. |
