Unused Summons

This article has a talk page!
view on tcrf.net

This is a sub-page of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2.

This page or section needs more videos.
There's a whole lotta words or pictures here, but not enough videos. Please fix this.
Specifically: This page is kinda short, so some videos demonstrating the summons that don't have any could help out

Unused Plant Consumables#

Fire Pea#

Watch on YouTube

Although the Fire Pea does appear in the final game as an NPC, it never appears as a summonable plant. It's similar to the Pea Cannon, but shoots fire projectiles instead.

Ice Pea#

Watch on YouTube

Likewise, the Ice Pea also appears in game as an NPC, appearing in the Zomburger Delivery Challenges, but is not summonable as a potted plant. It fires frozen peas which slow down and eventually freeze zombies.

Laser Bean#

Laser Bean from Garden Warfare 1 is still present in the games files, although its base soldier file has been removed entirely and uses the unused eye of sauron turrets soldier instead, which has 200 health and uses an unused weapon of its own, and causes Laser Beans model to fail and not render.

Magnifying Grass#

Watch on YouTube

The Magnifying Grass, originating from Plants vs. Zombies 2, was considered to be a summonable! It would've served a different role in this game by lowering the damage of nearby enemies.

Power Lily#

Watch on YouTube

The Power Lily, also from PvZ2, would've increased the damage output of nearby plants.

Pea Repeater#

Watch on YouTube

Old Pot from GW1 that functions similar to the Pea Cannon, but fires in bursts of 2 as opposed to just one. Seems to be fully functional. The model would later be reused for Battle For Neighborville for the regular Pea Cannon.

Food Fight Pea#

A Mysterious, unused copy of the Pea Cannon's exists under the name "FoodFight". It has its own textures although they are all blank, giving it a pale appearance. Given its name, it likely would've been used during some sort of Food Fight even, which takes place usually around Thanksgiving.

Fence Weed#

GW2-FenceWeed.png GW2-FenceWeedSpawnerIcon.png

An unused summonable plant and zombie enemy known as the Fence Weed. It would've most likely act like the plant counterpart of the Coffin Zombie. It was most likely replaced with the Vase Weed seen in the final game due to, if reimplemented, being too easy to damage the weed inside because of the weed’s head sticking out the top of the shield, and the shield’s hitbox being too small, making projectiles go through it and hit the weed inside. It does have a spotting icon which interestingly has the weed a darker shade of green.

When their fence body shield is destroyed, they don't properly go back to default weed animations and still use the vase weed ones.

Dark Flower Spawnable#

An unused image found in a file which contains all the images for spawnable Plant and Zombie minions suggests that you were going to be able to summon the Dark Flower in plant pots. It is unknown why this was scrapped.

Tier 1 & 2 Rose Turrets#

In the texture sheet for roses turrets, there is what looks to be textures related to possibly level 1 and level 2 forms of the turrets she can build in the Herbal Assault gamemode. No models for the lower levels exist in the game files, so the textures are all that remain. It was likely considered at some point whilst she was being made that her turrets could be leveled up exactly like the engineer's, but ultimately ended up being scrapped in favor of going straight to a level 3 form.

Unused Zombie Consumables#

Booster Bot#

An unused Bot which would've boosted nearby zombies' damage output. It has animations, sounds, an icon, and a model. Its design may have been partially used as inspiration for the Heavy Helper Turret in BFN. It does have a weapon its supposed to use, being "U_AI_DamageBooster", though it points to the uplink bots airstrike move, which visuals don't play properly due to it not being the correct bot.

Shieldy Bot#

Another unused Bot which would've attached a protective beam to a nearby zombie. It does have animations, a handful of sounds, and a model of its own. Has its own weapon being "U_AI_ZombieShield", though it also points to the uplink bots airstrike move.

Zombie Barriers#

In the directory for the zombie team selection sets, amongst all of the other consumable that they can summon at a moments notice, there's a sub category under the name "ZombieBarriers", which implies that barriers would have been a form of consumable that could have been used. 2 Barriers are named in the subcategory, being of a damage and speed barrier. Its not sure what exactly these would've been summoned for, though given 2 unused buffs also exist under similar names, it could suggest that zombies would've been given the ability to place barriers at various locations around the map, given that GW2 was the first true time they were tasked with defense.
