Unused Screens

This is a sub-page of Pikmin (GameCube).

These files are found in dataDir/screen/eng_blo, dataDir/screen/kodomo_blo and dataDir/screen/otona_blo.

Play_07.blo#

Found in the game's screen files is Play_07.blo, which is the HUD seen in many early screenshots. This version of the HUD has all the elements in one .blo while the final version has the health meter and clock in their own .blo. The main differences in this include the day counter in place of the total Pikmin counter and the unused moon texture being present on the screen, implying that there may have been a night clock.

worldmap.blo#

Also found in the same directories is worldmap.blo, a mockup of the world map, which is notable as it makes use of the otherwise unused onion textures (onyon_b.bti, onyon_l.bti, onyon_r.bti and onyon_y.bti), as well as the World Map texture (world_ti.bti). This file is not referenced anywhere in Start.dol.

The final look of the world map is achieved by use of multiple .blo files. The areas also have placeholder names:

account.blo#

This file contains an early version of the results screen that is shown at the end of each day. A very similar screen was present at an E3 build, albeit with different font. The final game's end of day results screen uses account2.blo instead. Gif of early results screen triggered in the beginning of a day via cheating.

The class that displays this screen, DrawAccount(), is still present in the actual game and its update method can be found at virtual location 0x801C25B4 in the North American version. Additionally, in the same class there exists a start function (0x801c2704 in the North American version) that triggers the animation by setting the object's own 0x11C field to a non-zero value and also sets fields that determine the "starting pikmins", "pikmins now" and "dead pikmins" values. This function is invoked by the class NaviDemoSunsetState's exec method (0x8010c8f4 in the North American version).
