Unused Models

This is a sub-page of Pikmin (GameCube).

To do:
There are another unused models. Such as:

  • Document if there's unused models.
  • Don't forget to document the folder dir of the discovered models.

axis.mod#

Located in dataDir/shapes/axis.mod is an unused axis model, which probably was used for placing objects and enemies.

arrow.mod#

Located in dataDir/shapes/arrow.mod is an unused arrow model, the purpose is unknown. Both of these models, arrow.mod, axis.mod, gets used in sysBootup (Windows x86 Debugger).

nv2Model.mod#

Located in dataDir/pikis/nv2Model.mod, is a very early model of Olimar, with rounded ears, a more pink colored nose, no helmet, no gloves, black shoes and a very simple body. It is still functional in-game and can be seen in use right here: Watch on YouTube

(Source: TCCO - The Cut Content Of (discovery), Pidris)

Located in dataDir/cinemas/demo77/navi.mod, is a very early model of the Pikmin, featuring a pure-black body & no distinct features. This model matches up with concept art of the Pikmin, drawn in the same way. The model includes a rig, but is pre-posed mid-walk animation.

cylinder.mod#

Watch on YouTube

An early pellet model. There are also two duplicates for this model, one which is on dataDir/objects, and dataDir/objects/cylinder.

kuribo.mod#

A goofy-looking model of a Goomba ("Kuribo" is the Japanese name for Goomba) that looks a bit like the unused Kug enemy from Super Mario Sunshine.

mario.mod#

Fun Fact! A tech demo shown was shown at Space World 2000 called "Super Mario 128", and many of its features would be gradually implemented into Pikmin

A very large model of Mario. Oddly, he has brown eyebrows and moustache instead of his usual black ones. The most obscure part is this model is actually rigged (even his mouth!).

door.mod and key.mod#

Watch on YouTube

A door and key model are located in the same folder. They can only be loaded without mods in the Windows Debug version. The door has a small and big version.

The door and key are still functional: Keys can be picked up by walking into them, and will disappear when collected. The keys can then be used on the door by simply walking in front of them. The small door will lock Olimar in place if the player has a key, but the big door will play an animation where it shrinks vertically until it disappears into the ground. The game will keep track of how many keys you have, so you 'll have to pick up another one if you want to open another door.

OldMarkr.mod#

Watch on YouTube

A marker most likely used to help test the mechanics of the Pikmin. The X shows where a Pikmin will land when thrown, the inner circle may be used to show how close a Pikmin must be to something to grab/attack it, and the outer circle shows the range of Olimar's whistle. The X and inner circle will change color depending on which Pikmin is currently closest to Olimar's active group.

Early S.S. Dolphin#

Folders demo76 and demo77, found in dataDir/cinemas, contain identical copies of an early version of the S.S. Dolphin's cutscene model. Neither demo76 nor demo77 use these, instead borrowing from demo01's resources.

Some differences can be spotted:

  • The top of the Ionium Jets are not hexagonal; they are round.
  • The retracted form of the egg-beater-like machine on the S.S. Dolphin is not cubical; it is instead a sphere.
  • The Interstellar Radio is blue and yellow with a white top, has two antennas, and has a tilted round grille instead of a red rectangular screen.
  • The Bowsprit has a larger, and rounder bulb.
  • The Guard Satellite has a more cylindrical design with a different top design.
  • Rivets are placed and spaced differently on the early model.
  • There appears to be no reflection on the early model, although this might be because of a lighting engine issue, since the credits video shows it with reflective surfaces.
