Enemies#

Console Exclusive#

MARI#

The simulation of MARI fought during BASIL RUSH has a unique, glitchy death animation that goes unseen due to how her fight is scripted to end when her health reaches a certain point.

These appear to be early sketch versions of the console-exclusive boss battle sprites.

FEAR OF DARK#

An early version of the SOMETHING IN THE DARK boss, which can be seen in the game's 2017 trailer (which is notably sped up) and exists as a placeholder enemy in the 2018 Kickstarter demo. All code for this iteration of the boss was removed from the final game, though its graphics still remain.

FEAR OF WATER#

An early version of the SOMETHING IN THE WATER boss, which was redrawn and given color and additional frames in the final game. Once again, the sprites of this boss are all that remain of it.

SLIME GIRLS#

All of the SLIME GIRLS have individual sprites, suggesting that they were all supposed to be fought separately than all together. In actuality, these sprites were actually supposed to only be for the FOE FACTS!, according to the RPG Maker Project. However, due to the FOE FACTS! only using neutral sprites, this leaves the rest of the spritesheet unused, even though the sprites are fully complete.

MARINA#

MOLLY#

MEDUSA#

FARAWAY TOWN Emotions#

Similarly to most party members, it's impossible to make enemies in FARAWAY TOWN feel emotions. Unique sprites exist, regardless.

BEE#

HOUSEFLY#

JACKSON#

AUBREY#

ANGEL#

CHARLIE#

THE MAVERICK#

KIM#

VANCE#

HOOLIGANS#

RECYCULTIST#

RECYCLEPATH#

TAG Photos#

DREAM WORLD Demo Tags#

First known versions of all the images that appear when the player tags a character in the DREAM WORLD, leftover from the game's demo. If you look closely they have skin color.

DREAM WORLD Early Tags#

More tag images, this time closer to the final versions. The major differences include most of the drawings having additional details such as more detailed shading seen than in the final game. The colored backgrounds corresponding to each character also return from the demo's tags. Curiously, the "HERO TAGGED KEL" tag image in the final game used this revision (minus the background) up until version 1.0.4.

FARAWAY TOWN Early Tags#

Early versions of the final FARAWAY TOWN tag images. Most of these were either redrawn or given additional detail for the final. The colored backgrounds make an appearance once again.

Battle Backgrounds#

!battle_omori_3#

A duplicate of one of OMORI's (the boss version) sprite sheets, its third phase specifically. It's unknown why this is in the battlebacks folder, could likely be a misplacement of sorts.

LILI Battle Background#

A battle background most likely meant for the LILI SOMETHING Enemy. This background is actually seen in pre-release material.

FARAWAY Street#

A battle background most likely meant for somewhere in FARAWAY. It's worth noting that this is actually called in the game, very specifically after MAVERICK's fight, the battle background is switched to this after the battle. However, since there seems to be no battles the player can engage with that doesn't change the battle background to some other picture without the use of debug at that point in the game, it makes this unable to be seen in normal gameplay.

Parallaxes#

NEIGHBOR'S ROOM Tilemap#

A tilemap image of the NEIGHBOR'S ROOM lies in the parallax folder. It's unknown what this could have been used for.

RED SPACE Parallax#

A duplicate of another parallax the game uses, "!parallax_black_space", with this one's name being "polaroidBG_BS_sky". Main things of note is that this is missing the "!" prefix the used version seems to utilize, and this is actually being preloaded in the title screen code- However, the code ends up calling "!parallax_black_space" for the background instead.

SWEETHEART'S CASTLE Color Wheel#

An early version of the dress code for the mandatory quest in the ROYAL LIBRARY of SWEETHEART'S CASTLE. It was originally going to be much less strict.

"Free Jobs" Poster#

A poster that would've showed up at the start of TWO DAYS LEFT, featuring the list of children that MR. JAWSUM tricked into working for him at the LAST RESORT. Of note are SHARLEEN and MIKAL'S respective early names, "CHARLENE" and "LADAO".

Swinging Axe#

A giant grayscale swinging axe, akin to a medieval trap. Despite the color palette, the sprite is prefixed with DW, the abbreviation for Headspace.

Unused PHOTO ALBUM Text#

The text for the "The Truth" iteration of BASIL's PHOTO ALBUM is scratched out, leaving the Polaroids to tell the story of MARI's fate on their own. However, while the text message for each photograph exists (albeit without any text in them) in the game's files through an unused image for the album pages. Unlike other iterations of the PHOTO ALBUM, this one is narrated in second-person perspective to both SUNNY and BASIL.

The following is a reconstruction of how these descriptions would have looked in the album.

(Source: https://omori.fandom.com/wiki/PHOTO_ALBUM#THE_TRUTH)

Early FARAWAY Photo Album Cover#

An early version of BASIL'S Faraway Polaroid Album's cover still lies in the files. Compared to the utilized version, the color is more on the beige side instead of green, and it looks much more rougher-looking. Interestingly, some of BASIL's used overworld sprites still seem to use the color of this early album cover texture.

FEAR OF HEIGHTS Early Hands#

Originally, the hands utilized in a pre-battle cutscene of FEAR OF HEIGHTS didn't utilize photorealistic hands, and instead, pixel art of them. Given the game's many stylistic homages to Yume Nikki, this early design appears to nod to the Staircase of Hands in that game. The event that uses this is still in the game, albeit deactivated.

FEAR OF DROWNING MARI Spotlight#

An odd picture that was utilized in a pre-battle cutscene of FEAR OF DROWNING. The event that uses this is still in the game, albeit deactivated.

HUMPHREY Dark Overlay#

A dark overlay utilized for when the player is in HUMPHREY. It has "BACKUP" added to its name- when compared with the one the game uses, this one's field of vision is bigger.

BASIL's RESPITE Telescope#

A parallax of the WATERMELON PATH area in BLACK SPACE lies in the Pictures folder. This was actually intended for pre-revision BLACK SPACE, Where the player has to bring BASIL to certain stumps in order to progress through the sequence. This image was a part of it by looking at a telescope in the area where the player would have retrieved him, and as such, this picture would have been displayed as the telescope's image. Since that original sequence ended up cut, so did this graphic. Both maps, of the telescope and BASIL's retrieval area, still exist in the game, but unused.

Parallax "Glitch" Version#

Unknown. May have been meant for the aforementioned cut telescope.

BASIL's House Eyes#

A picture that was meant to be placed onto the map. This picture is part of an entire cut sequence from the game, HAUNTED HOUSE, where this would have been displayed after the player reached BASIL's house in the dreamworld with MARI and was left by themselves.

White LIGHTBULB#

Animation sheets for an inverted-color version of the LIGHTBULB. Its purpose is unknown, but it was most likely intended to be placed in BLACKSPACE. There's a version of it with just one horizontal sheet, missing it's wire and oddly, upside-down as well.

RAIN TOWN Sky#

A sheet for what was possibly intended to be RAIN TOWN's sky/parallax. It is unknown what exactly was this for, but it could be argued this was possibly intended to be the original parallax for RAIN TOWN instead of the default faraway sky parallax as a resolution for one of it's frames fits RAIN TOWN's map perfectly- there's an event associated with this sheet, but it's completely unfinished and deactivated. An attempt at a restoration of this texture sheet can be seen here.

RED MAZE MARI Blur#

A blurry, large image of one of the MARIs found in RED MAZE. Of note, this one's neck isn't as long and crooked compared to those. Its purpose is unknown, but due to the image's resolution, it could be guessed that it was intended for a scare, much like the other HELLMARI door scares.

ROOM WITH SELF Face#

A graphic consisting of OMORI's cropped face from the mirror jumpscare, it exists as both a parallax and picture. This is actually used in a cut BLACK SPACE map, "ROOM WITH SELF", where the player had to move small "pupil" spheres into OMORI's eye sockets to give him "eyes". After doing so, the event would end and return the player to WINDOW HALLWAY.

BASIL's SOMETHING parallax#

An animation sheet of BASIL's SOMETHING that covers the game's entire screen. It most likely served as a parallax to a map according to its name, or something else entirely. This file is used in a debug room, where it'll appear and go through a single animation cycle before being erased.

Images#

Black Space Door#

An image of a door, specifically those found in BLACK SPACE. This door may have been used during your introduction to BLACK SPACE, however this door lacks details such as the grass covering parts of the door.

Daytime HELLMARI#

If HELLMARI in the night wasn't enough, there exists images of a red HELLMARI that, judging by the naming of the file, was to to appear during daytime. A mock-up of what this may have played out like can be seen here.

nowyouknow.png#

An image of SUNNY, uh, horrified by something... This image has an unknown purpose in-game, as no jumpscares occur while waking up. More likely, this image was just made to scare dataminers judging by the name.

BLACKSPACE HELLMARI Face#

A closeup of HELLMARI's face with a very, very dark overlay over it. It's unknown what this was intended for, but most likely somewhere in BLACKSPACE.

BLACKSPACE Laptop Screen#

An image of the WHITE SPACE Laptop, but with a black blotch in the down left corner of the screen with several SOMETHING Eyes peeking through. In the final game, if the player interacts with the laptop in BLACKSPACE, the game responds with dialogue saying "Nothing but static.". However, this might have been different somewhere in development according to this unused picture.

Placeholder Images#

Many placeholder or mockup images were left in the game, with some of them including some pre-release material.

Room Mockups#

Placeholder images containing mockups of rooms in-game.

MEMORY LANE#

A mockup image of what MEMORY ROAD was supposed to look like. Assets such as the rain and background are absent. The naming of the file suggests that this was originally supposed to be apart of BLACK SPACE. In the final game, however, MEMORY LANE is its own separate section.

BORING ROOM#

Remember what happened on the OMORI ROUTE when you become the owner of SWEETHEART'S CASTLE? You get your own boring room. A mockup of this image is also present in the files, where SUNNY, the protagonist for most of the SUNNY ROUTE, is seen sitting on the chair of the ex-horrific boring room. In contrast to this image, SUNNY is never seen in the ex-horrific version of the boring room.

Final Battle#

A few placeholder assets exist for the final battle against OMORI.

UI Mockup#

A mockup image of the final battle against OMORI. It uses the Battle UI from the Kickstarter demo, as evidenced by the orange JUICE meter. There's a blur effect around the image, and OMORI and SUNNY's drawings are badly cropped. Lastly, SUNNY'S name is simply "____" as a placeholder.

Early Intro#

A work-in-progress spritesheet of the intro for the final battle. Frame numberings can be found at the bottom right.

HANGMAN#

There exists two placeholder images for the HANGMAN screen. Instead of using keyboard keys for the letters, these images use Blackletters. These were actually teased in a 2019 Twitter post by the official OMORI Twitter account.

OMORI_Placeholder_hangman.png OMORI_Placeholder_hangman_2.png

PHOTO ALBUM#

HEADSPACE ALBUM#

An earlier version of the PHOTO ALBUM, which contains early text and pictures taken by BASIL. Behind the album is a strange room with some debug text and PLUTO, of all things.

Assets for the early photo album can also be found in an Albums folder. Strangely, the HEADSPACE album is known as the FARAWAY album in this folder.

World Map#

An earlier version of the world map, which is almost identical to the final map, but contains a dock maze at the top of the sea and some shading differences for objects in the sea.

SOMETHING IN THE WALLS#

Two unused sprites for the SOMETHING IN THE WALLS creature that SUNNY encounters. Of note is that its limbs end with what appear to be hands, while normally they're just regular spider limbs.

OMORI_Placeholder_spider01.png OMORI_Placeholder_spider02.png

Stargazing#

A placeholder parallax graphic for the scene where OMORI gazes at the stars in the playground.

Battle Background Guideline#

A unique battle background used as a guideline, presumably for enemy placement.

Status Particles#

These are labeled within the game files as "status particles". They allude to the HAPPY, ANGRY, and SAD EMOTIONS respectively.

Atlases#

Big spritesheets used during development for various purposes.

There are two images that depict some templates the developers of the game used for various actions and features. The first image contains an NPC representation of OMOCAT, an NPC representation of Archeia (one of the co-developers for OMORI), and a Sunny x Basil (Sunflower) lovechild made by Archeia1. The lovechild looks a bit similar to Flower, a character part of the OMORIBOY manga.

OMORI_DEV_TEST.png OMORI_DEV_FrameReference.png

Interestingly enough, The Archeia sprite IS used in the OMORI DEMO for a secret room.

Title Screen Atlas#

An early title screen atlas, featuring a few differences for each row of characters:

  • OMORI is slightly larger than the final, and has a small white fade near the bottom of his sprite.
  • BLACK SPACE OMORI is much darker, and has dimmer highlights.
  • SUNNY's face, as well as his second and third frames, were adjusted in the final seemingly to separate him from OMORI, though he ends up having eyeshines on ONE DAY LEFT of the SUNNY ROUTE when they should only be visible after reaching the Good Ending.

Battle Atlases#

Essentially spritesheets containing most of the battle UI. Two early versions of this atlas exist in the files. Of note is that both of these earlier versions have the final ECG say "everything will be okay" instead of "everything is going to be okay".

battleATLAS_NEW#

Despite the name "battleATLAS_NEW", this is the earliest battle UI atlas in the files. The main differences include:

  • All of the UI is much thicker.
  • There are placeholder "FIGHT..." and "RUN!" buttons.
  • The energy meter uses a slightly different palette than the final.
  • The stress meter has a different visual appearance during its later stages.
  • Some of the attack commands are off-center.

battleATLAS#

Most of what's here is pretty much final, but there's some minor differences:

  • Both the energy and stress meters seem to have their first stages completely missing.
  • The energy meter charge-up graphic has a transparent outline not present in any other revision.

Early Tag Abilities#

These are early graphics for what seem to be tag abilities.

KEL#

Very similar to the final in terms of design, but with many differences. QTE_Arrow.png

OMORI#

OMORI has two atlases for his ability. A main one, and the other a background.

Here is the main atlas. QTE_OMORI_ATLAS.png

Here is the background. QTE_Hit_the_mark_background.png

AUBREY#

AUBREY has very few graphics except for a simple background. QTE_Smash_Background.png

Animations#

Early and unused SKILL animations can be found in the game files.

SNACK Consumption#

Unused animation of a SNACK being eaten.

Early BREAD SLICE Graphic#

An early graphic of the BREAD that appears when defeating an enemy with the BREAD SLICE skill. Compared to the one that is used in the final game, it looks far less realistic.

Early TRICK Animation#

An earlier, less-colorful version of OMORI's TRICK skill.

TICKLE Animation#

Animation for KEL's TICKLE skill that goes unused for whatever reason.

SOMETHING Spider Summon#

Animation of SOMETHING IN THE WALLS summoning a BABY SPIDER. In earlier builds of the game, SOMETHING IN THE WALLS would be accompanied by BABY SPIDERS, which would soon reappear if defeated.

BEAR HUG Attack#

Animation for an unused attack known as BEAR HUG, which was meant to be used by the RARE BEAR.

SOMETHING Attack#

Unused animation of an attack relating to SOMETHING.

Bubbles#

Follow-Ups#

There exist a couple early graphics for follow-up skills.

OMORI#

AUBREY#

AUBREY to OMORI#

Looks like originally, OMORI was never going to notice her.

AUBREY to KEL#

AUBREY to HERO#

KEL#

HERO#

Unknown HERO Follow-Ups#

There are a few extra unused bubbles for HERO. It is unknown which of the other friends these were attributed to.

Tiles#

There are many tilesets in the game with either few unused tiles, or the almost the entire thing is unused.

FARAWAY#

These are various graphics not found anywhere in FARAWAY TOWN.

HEADSPACE#

Strangely, it seems like these sprites have been erased or covered up. These neon pink rectangles are all that can be seen. The name Marina_Tumor feels particularly out-of-place.

There are three separate unused tilesets for Rain Town. These appear to be from really early in development as they use the black headspace outlines from the demo.

BLACKSPACE#

This sprite sheet contains several greyscale sprites of the characters riding rafts, intended for Black Space. There are sections that feature rafts in this area, but these specific sprites go unused.

file:BS_raft_sprites.png

Similarly to the ones above, these sprites from the sprite sheet objects_bs_minecart aren't used either.

file:objects_bs_minecart_CROPPED_2.png

There are many graphics such as "hallucination" tilesets, an entire piece of RED SPACE, and tiles that never go used.

DEVELOPER#

All of these are used for marking specific types of tiles in the game's maps, but go unseen.
