Nemesis, despite what the name implies, is less of a port and more of a "greatest hits"-style mash-up of the original arcade game, its sequel (specifically the NES version), and the MSX Nemesis 2 with a few original elements thrown in.

Between the original Japanese release of Nemesis and its subsequent releases in the US and Europe, Konami took the opportunity to make some changes to the game, one of which includes adding the player score during gameplay.
However, the later Konami GB Collection version released in Europe for Game Boy Color is directly based on the Japanese version (used in the original Super Game Boy-enhanced Collection released in Japan), so these changes are rolled back, which unfortunately includes the score display.

The North American version replaces the Konami logo with the Ultra Games one on the startup screen.
At the time of release, "Nemesis" was held as a trademark by a company named Crystalline Creations that specialized in making Go computer games. While both the US and European boxes listed this info on the back, additional acknowledgment of this was added to the European title screen.
An unreleased Rev. 1 of the US version, found in Nintendo's lot check archive, also contains the updated trademark information.

Player score was hidden during gameplay in the Japanese version and was only shown on the Player Out/Ship Lost and Game Over screens, or upon completing a stage. The international versions shrink and move the options bar to the left to make room for score during gameplay.
However, since the Konami GB Collection is based on the Japanese versions of the games, this change is sadly reverted for both the Japanese and European rereleases.
Other Differences#
- The message displayed when the player loses a ship has been changed from "PLAYER OUT" to "SHIP LOST" in the international versions. This was naturally reverted in the Japanese and European Konami GB Collection rereleases.

Konami GB Collection Vol. 1#
For the game's rerelease on Konami GB Collection Vol. 1, its title was changed to Gradius for consistency. The Japanese release adds support for the Super Game Boy with enhanced graphics and border. The European release adds support for the Game Boy Color, but removes compatibility with the original Game Boy and Super Game Boy.

Copyright info on the start screen was updated for the Japanese rerelease. The European rerelease removes this from the start screen, since it is already present on the title screen for Konami GB Collection Vol. 1.
