Gunpey DS

Gunpey DS is one of two reboots of the puzzler franchise. While there are also player/music interactions, like the Lumines series of games and the other reboot that followed, the main focus of this release are the nine characters from the WonderSwan and PlayStation releases, which were extensively redesigned and associated with a musical genre.

Unused "Top" Button#

A variant of the "Top" button seen in the selection screens, found in data\Language_JP\Menu\Back\menu_kan_top. The palette is incorrect.

Mocking Bird#

In the European release, in the French, German, Italian and Spanish languages, a small caption is displayed below the bottom screen when a skill is triggered. Caption graphics for the character Domingo's skill, Mocking Bird, exist, but as this skill's ability is to trigger another, different skill, these are never displayed.

Oddity#

The sound effects used for each character's exclusive skills are stored alongside their associated sound sets (for example, the sound for the Rising Sun skill is stored within the Country sound set). This is true for every character except Nick (House, Techno, Electronica) and Hank (Trance, Digi-Rock, Gabber), which have each other's skill sound effects instead (Hank's sound sets have the sound effect for the skill System Hack, while Nick's sound sets have the sound effect for the skill Riches to Rags).

Regional Differences#

Logo Displays#

  • In the localizations, this sequence cannot be skipped, while it is possible to do so in the original Japanese release.
  • In addition to the Bandai Namco and Q Entertainment titles displayed at the top screen, the bottom screen displays the logos of Bandai and of the Quest Beat label in the Japanese release, whereas they are replaced with "Licensed by Nintendo" in the localizations.
