Devil May Cry 2 is set several years after the events of the original Devil May Cry, the game follows Dante and Lucia as they attempt to stop Arius from resurrecting the demon king, Argosax.
Devil May Cry 2 introduced a second playable protagonist, larger environments, and a darker tone. While being a financial success for Capcom, the game didn't live up to the original game. However, the game is praised for its soundtrack, character designs, and amazing combat.
"King? Yeah, here's your crown."

Early UI and Menu Graphics#
Nearly every single graphic for the main menu and UI has some sort of early variant or placeholder, possibly showing that they were replaced late into development and the development team didn't bother to remove these files once they were replaced.

Several enemies are moved around for the in-game enemy files. Geri the Wolf was originally supposed to get his own enemy file, but that was scrapped for the final game.

The graphics for the in-game log went through multiple revisions before settling on a simple red background.
Dummy#
A rather simple dummy texture. The character 染 means "color" or "paint".
Unused Options#
|
|
To do: |
The texture for the options menu text includes a few options that are not available in the final game: Controls and Subtitle. Bizarrely, the game's manual even describes both of these options, but the screenshot of the options menu in the manual does not show either of them.
Controller Type B#
A placeholder graphic for type B controller settings. The controls cannot be viewed at all in the final game, let alone modified.

Despite being a Type B setup, there are no differences with the functionality of the face buttons like there are in the previous game (the shoot and action buttons being swapped). On the other hand, the gun quick select button was moved from R2 to L2 in the final game.
More interesting, though, is the reference to an on-screen map that could be toggled on and off with L3: something that is present in both the previous game and next games. Given that the map does not even show the player's location in a given area, it probably would've been equally as useless without some further fleshing-out.
TGS/Trial Version Leftovers#

Obscure Mechanic#
If you somehow navigate to an area where there is no fixed camera (essentially impossible without using glitches or mods to get out of bounds), you gain the ability to move the camera manually, using the right stick.
Moving the right stick left and right pans the camera; moving it up and down zooms the camera in and out.
Regional Differences#
Chinese Menu#

The Chinese version has an entirely different title screen for both Dante and Lucia.
