Trial Edition Info

This is a sub-page of Devil May Cry 2.

In December 2002, Capcom released a short trial version of Devil May Cry 2. The demo was bundled with magazines, distributed in retail stores, and included with rental copies. It features two playable missions: the first half of Dante's opening mission and the second half of Lucia's.

Frontend Graphics#

Various frontend assets differ from the final release.

Upon selecting any option on the title screen, only the gunshot sound effect plays; the "Devil May Cry" voice clip isnt present.

Mission 1#

After pressing "New Game", the game starts the player at Mission 1, the prologue with Dante & Lucia inside the museum is completely missing. The mission start graphic is also slightly crustier than the final game.

The cutscene introducing the Bound Agony (Aganofinis) demon is made up of basic animations instead of a full cutscene.

Mission 2#

Although based on Lucia's first mission from the retail game, the demo has players control Dante instead. The mission begins inside the clock tower, skipping half the level.

Minor Differences#

• Rebellion is reflective in some parts, something absent in the final game however Lucia and Trish still retain this in the final game. • Mission 1 does not have Eye of the Wind playing, only an ambience plays. •
