Regional and Language Differences

This is a sub-page of Brawl Stars.

Regional Differences#

To do:
Add more features, events, and cosmetics that are (or were) exclusive to China.

Brawl Stars was released to the Chinese market on the 9th of June, 2020, during the first Brawl Pass season. With Chinese censorship regulations galore, Brawl Stars has a few regional differences between its Global and Chinese versions.

Loading Screen#

Global

Chinese

The loading screen is slightly different, as there is a CADPA rating present in the Chinese loading screen. This rating's position changes every time there's a new Brawl Pass season.
The Chinese release also has a log-in screen (it's the one shown above), which is identical to the loading screen, with the only difference being that there is text overlapping it.

Note: the Brawlywood loading screen was used for this comparison.

Brawl Box Info#

Global

Chinese

Back when Brawl Boxes were still in the game, you could see the probabilities of drops when checking the information on the Brawl Boxes available in the shop in both versions. However, there was extra information available on the Chinese version: drop guarantees and a daily limit, which is exclusive to the Chinese version. Oddly enough, the Legendary Brawler drop rate cap is lower in the Chinese version (0.2544%) as opposed to the Global version (0.2752%).

Note: the Mega Box information was used for the comparison.

Brawl Pass Season 9 Extension#

Brawl_Stars_Extended_Season_9_CN.mp4

The Brawlywood season was extended for more than 70 days due to a controversy about Season 10, specifically Fang. To compensate, more quests were added.
During the extension, Brawlywood's lobby background disappeared, and the Season 6 lobby music was used.

White Damage Flashing#

Brawl_Stars_Damage_Flashes_Comparison.mp4

Taking damage in the Global release will flash the screen and Brawler red. This flashing is changed to a faint white flash in the Chinese version. This was implemented due to death and pain not being permitted to be portrayed in videogames released in China.

Showdown Exit Feature#

Brawl_Stars_Showdown_Exit_Feature_CN.mp4

In Showdown, you can return to the lobby faster in the Chinese version -- but only if you're in the top 3 in Solo Showdown and in the top 2 in Duo Showdown (however, you have to wait for your teammate to confirm exiting the match). Exiting a match makes you die instantly. This feature was implemented to combat videogame addiction in China.

Visual Differences#

To comply with the Chinese gaming market, some visual changes had to be implemented in order for the game to be greenlit - mostly just for Showdown. This caused objects such as skulls and bones to be replaced with cactuses and sprouts respectively.

Settings Screen#

Unexpectedly, Brawl Stars has different settings between its Global and Chinese versions.

Global

Chinese

Global offers many languages, such as Japanese, German, French and such, however in the Chinese version you were only choose English or Traditional Chinese in the older versions. The option to change languages has been removed in the newer Chinese versions.

Global

Chinese

Links to Supercell's ToS, Privacy Policy and Parent's Guide are replaced with Tencent's variants in the Chinese version. Additionally, in the same release, the Google Play, Game Center and Supercell ID sign-in methods are absent and LINE functionality is removed in place for the only available sign-in methods: QQ and WeChat. Location changing is also absent from the Chinese release, but strangely enough, API tokens are only present in the Chinese release.

Club Invite Methods#

Global

Chinese

The only main difference in Clubs is the invite method. The Global release will let you share the invite through messaging apps and such, while the Chinese version will only let you send invites through WeChat.

Esports Cosmetics#

Global

Chinese

In the Chinese version, only the Player Icons for Gen.G Esports, Team Heretics, LOUD and Spacestation Gaming are available to purchase. The Global release has the team Pins and Sprays while also having more teams that have cosmetics.

Exclusive Skins + Skins Music#

While equipped in the lobby, the skins have menu music + lobby background unique to their skin line.

Exclusive Events#

Boonie Bears Collab#

From June 2025 - Mid July 2025, there was a collab with the Chinese cartoon Boonie Bears (or 熊出沒 in Mandarin). The collab was exclusive to China and added 4 new skins (Briar Bull, Bramble El Primo, Logger Vick Dynamike and King Tiki Mico), a new version of Brawl Arena called "Crown Clash" and other modes and an event, which was a re-skin of the Pizza Planet event from January 2025.

Neon Genesis Evangelion Collab#

From August 18th until September 17th 2025, there was a collab with Neon Genesis Evangelion, which added 6 exclusive skins (Unit-01 Mortis, Night Fighter Unit-01 Mortis, Awakened Unit-01 Mortis, Unit-02 Lily, Beast Unit-02 Lily, Unit-00 Max) and a PVE mode which is like Boss Fight and Oni Hunt and included 3 different difficulty rewards while also using the contest system. There was also a reward track called the "Eva Star System" which gives rewards based on how many Eva Stars you opened. Eva Stars are reskins of Starr Drops which have 5 different reward levels: 25%, 50%, 75%, 90% and 100%. Rewards included pulls for the Gacha and a back accessory. It also used an event calendar system, like the Battle for Katana Kingdom event from May 2025.
