This is a sub-page of Proto:World of Goo.

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

This is the final prototype of the initial batch of releases. While the game itself still is very different and unfinished from the final, it shows a glimpse of what the game could have been.

General Differences#

The world select has 7 worlds, as opposed to the 5 in the final game. However, only the first one is playable.

Level Differences#

Scrapped Levels#

Straight Up#

A level which does not appear in the final game. It would appear in the first trailer of the game, with a fireplace aesthetic.

Save Data#

Save data in this prototype is stored in the registry, located at HKEY_USERS\S-[Security Key]_Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\2dboy\goo\. Profiles store their save information in a single registry key and use the following format:

[Number of Worlds completed],[Next Level Name],[Number of Levels unlocked],[Next World Name],
[Unlocked Level Name],[Goos collected],...
[Sandbox Tower data]

The sandbox tower data format appears to be the same as in the final game.

Bugs#

  • Collecting goo product crashes the game, which prevents unlocking any levels after Jaw Bridge
  • Save data refuses to load if it is 1024 characters or longer
  • The 'deadly' parameter on geometry does not work
