InvasionThe earliest prototype of this game, back when it was about Humans vs. Aliens. June 25th, 2007On June 11th, 2020, an archive of Postal III's Perforce was leaked. Contained within is both the source code and an early build of Postal III, unfinished early builds of Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode Two, and various Source Engine development tools. The TF2 build contained within is dated 3 months before the initial closed beta in 2007, with the binaries for the build specifically dating to June 25th, 2007. It is the earliest known prototype of what would become modern TF2. This build is unplayable due to outdated .dlls, but it contains debug .pdbs leftover from compilation, revealing what was in the build engine-wise during this time period. September 17th, 2007Colloquially known as "Version 0", this is the closed beta that was given to people who pre-ordered or activated the "Black Box" coupon for the game; playtesters for this build would later receive the Primeval Warrior badge when the game was made free-to-play in 2012. This build contains essentially everything in the June 2007 prototype in regards to the grenade and cut weapon textures, minus a few unique things from that prototype. It is currently the earliest playable prototype of modern TF2. This build was also the very first early build of the game to become known to and obtained by the community. 2009 Closed BetaThe closed beta that was privately playtested by top-level competitive players in 2009. 2010 Open BetaThe open beta that was launched in 2010, and was eventually cancelled and removed from Steam in 2013.
