This is a sub-page of Proto:Superliminal.

Notes:

  • It's likely that all of the things listed on this page are the same as the previous demo build (1.10.2020.3.17.067), but since that version is lost, everything is listed on this page instead for now.
  • Even though the demo usually stops before the door illusion room, all of the Optical rooms after that are still in the game, just disabled. The information on this page includes those disabled rooms.

Added on March 20th, 2020, this build of Superliminal is a demo which contains one level consisting of parts of Induction and Optical. This version contains features from both version 1.05.2019.12.13.185 and version 1.10.2020.7.6.877, making it an interesting mix of the two. This was released as part of the Summer 2020 Steam Game Festival.

Demo Level#

After pressing New Game, you are immediately placed into Induction with no intro cutscene. The next few rooms are normal until you reach the pawn illusion corridor, in which the "Confirmed:..." line does not play.

In the next section of the same hallway, past the pawn illusion, the rest of the level is blocked off with a brick wall. Opposite the brick wall is a window full of alarm clocks (similar to the one featured later in the level in the full game), with three boxes underneath. To the left of the boxes is a table with an alarm clock on it which only appears once the player has looked directly at the brick wall.

After clicking the alarm clock, the player is teleported to the start of Optical, maintaining the exact same position and rotation relative to the alarm clock (which can easily spawn you inside of the bed, launching you upwards). The Induction music stops after being teleported, and despite (kind of) being in a new level, there is no checkpoint in the bedroom.

Optical is normal up until the ledge which you get up using the stairs cube. The doorway to the next section now has a portal inside of it which leads directly to the ending corridor, in which the radio which is usually on top of the moon has been moved onto some boxes. After reaching the loading screen by going into the elevator, the game returns to the main menu.

Added Features#

Fully Added#

These features have been added since version 1.05.2019.12.13.185, matching how they end up in version 1.10.2020.7.6.877.

  • All of the collectables have been added, and the various changes to the fire extinguishers and fire alarms have been made.
  • Gravity is now changed based on the size of the player.
  • The volume of various sound effects has been adjusted (e.g footsteps are much quieter).
  • Most of Optical's environmental changes have been made (see here).
  • The second Optical easter egg now exists.
  • The level boundaries in the outside area in Optical now appear when the player gets close.

Partially Added#

  • The camera shake option has been added, but it is listed as "Turn Off Screen Shake" instead. Despite the name, turning this setting on will turn on camera shake.
  • The pole in the outside area in Optical looks darker due to the lighting, but it isn't fully black yet.
  • Achievements are disabled but still exist in the game files, and are fully functional when enabled. All of the achievements from version 1.10.2020.7.6.877 are present.
  • Functionality for walking around the main menu has been added, although this is normally inaccessible. It doesn't seem like the constellation items are added as you collect them.
  • The collectable icons on the level select screen have been added, although these are again normally inaccessible. The icons don't seem to appear as they are collected.

Missing Features#

These are features which are in version 1.10.2020.7.6.877 which have not yet been added.

  • The physics are not fps dependent.
  • The game freezing after pausing during certain loads has not been fixed.
  • The following environmental changes in Optical have not been made:
    • The extra ceilings in the starting hallways.
    • The secret messages in the door illusion room being made more faint.
  • The first Optical easter egg is not present.
