'...But what does it mean?' |
|
|
To do:
|
A substantial amount of debug features can be accessed within dungeons in this build, both during regular gameplay and by selecting "Dungeon" in the debug menu found within the top menu.
Debug Text#
Added to the bottom of the screen are a few debug values. The first number is a random number seed that changes between floors, while the second changes while performing most actions, including walking, attacking, menu selections, etc.
Recruitment#
Defeating a recruitable enemy will display the RNG roll for recruitment. "rand" is a random number up to ~1000, while "value" is calculated based on the enemy's recruit rate and the leader's level and/or held item. If "rand" is lower than "value", this will make the enemy request to join the player's team.
Recruiting does not work very well if the dungeon is entered using the top debug menu, as the player will only have the Mt. Cleft and Turtleshell Pond friend areas regardless of the current leader and partner; this is presumably because Charmander and Squirtle are the default team in other debug features. The earliest enemies to easily test this feature on are the Aron in Mt. Steel, which use the Mt. Cleft friend area.
$$$$#
Selecting any item will reveal a curious $$$$ option, which does not appear to have any effect.
Debug Menu#
Found at the bottom of the Other menu is an extensive debug menu. It uses an alternate, hard-to-read kana font never used in the retail game, and does not respond to the touch screen.
The strings related to this debug menu are not found in the retail game, in either Japanese or English. However, English translations of a good chunk of the strings are found within Explorers of Sky, which used a dungeon debug menu ultimately built (after an intermediate step) on this menu from Blue Rescue Team; as such, they will be used whenever available. Any unofficial translations are marked in italics.

このフロアのひと |
IN THIS FLOOR |
Brings up a list of Pokémon that can spawn on the current floor, and allows the player to spawn them directly in front of the leader. This list always includes Kecleon and the Decoy. Selecting any Pokémon will bring up another menu including more options:
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
ぞくせいそうさA |
STATUS(1) |
Displays another menu, allowing the player to edit some of the target's attributes.
|
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
ぞくせいそうさB |
STATUS(2) |
Brings up another sub-menu for editing the target's stats. "WISE" refers to IQ, and "GETFIRE" has an unknown function. The following list excludes the second and third AT/SP.AT/DEF/SP.DEF strings suffixed with T (mininum) or M (maximum).

Instantly sets the target's level to 100. This will also affect the moveset. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
かため |
HARD DEFENCE |
Sets the target's Defense and Sp. Defense to 255, and their HP to 499. |
MONSTER B#
This menu includes several more options for influencing ally and enemy behavior.
Japanese |

Function |
|---|---|---|
フロアにいどう |
STOP PARTIES |
Prevents AI-controlled teammates from moving or attacking. |
モンスターていし |
STOP ENEMIES |
Prevents any enemies from moving or attacking. Monster Houses will still spawn, and sleeping enemies will still wake up to face the approaching team member. |
こうげきせいげん |
MOVE MODE |
Switches between 3 options; "NORMAL", "ATTACK ONLY" and "WAZA ONLY" (MOVE ONLY). "ATTACK ONLY" will cause your teammates to solely use regular attacks, while "WAZA ONLY" causes them to solely use moves. Turning on their Exclusive Move-User IQ Skill while "ATTACK ONLY" is active will cause them to stop attacking and follow the leader. |
しぜんはっせい |
AUTO REBORN |
Switches between "NORMAL" and "STOP". The latter option will prevent Reviver Seeds from working on your team. |
なかま 100% |
JOIN SURELY |
Will set the "rand" value described above to -19139, which will guarantee recruitment on any recruitable Pokémon. Friend areas are still required before this will work. |
ITEM#
As the name implies, this menu allows for spawning items.
Japanese |
Translation |
Function |
|---|---|---|
こすう |
NUMBER |
Sets the amount of items to be generated. Does not affect stackable items; it instead generates multiple stacks of them. |
のろい |
CURSE |
Affects whether the spawned item is clean or sticky. "CURSE" is likely referring to a comparable attribute in other Mystery Dungeon series, such as Shiren the Wanderer. |
や、いし |
NEEDLE |
Opens a list of throwable items such as Gravelerocks and Needles. Always spawns a stack of them, which appear to use a random amount. |
リボン |
RIBBON |
Opens a list of wearable items. |
くさ |
SEED |
Opens a list of Seed items. |
たべもの |
FOOD/P$ |
Opens a list of food items, along with Poké (currency). |
ほんけ |

Opens a list of special items, including Keys, evolution items and the Music Box. |
わざ1 / わざ2 |
TM |
Opens a list of TMs. |
ふしぎ1 / ふしぎ2 |
ORBS |
Opens a list of Orbs, as well as the Link Box and the normally unused Switch Box in the second menu. |
ぜんくり |
ALL CLEAR |
Instantly clears your inventory. |
らんすう |
RANDOM |
Spawns a random item into your inventory. |
おかね |
POKE |
A number which can be changed to alter the currently held Poké, the game's currency. |
あしもと |
GROUND |
Can be switched between OFF and ON. If set to ON, this will place spawned items onto the ground; this will also ignore the "NUMBER" setting, spawning only a single item. |
Early Item Names#
Interestingly, this menu uses early name strings for a number of items. Any such items will still use the final name when spawned.

MOVE#
Adds any move to a Pokémon's moveset, overwriting their topmost learned move. As before, the target is decided by the Front Mode / Self Mode option in the Monster A menu. Selecting one of the options will enter a sub-menu containing all moves starting with the listed hiragana and their katakana equivalents, while the "AT3" options contain orb effects which cannot normally be learned by Pokémon. "ほかぜロモード" (OTHER ZERO MODE), if set to anything but zero, will set the PP of the added move to the specified number, and the PP of the Pokémon's other three known moves to zero.
TRAP#
Allows for the spawning of any trap, including the normally unused Trip Trap. Unlike in regular gameplay, these traps will always be visible unless "FORGET TRAP ALL" is used afterwards. "そくせい" (ATTRIBUTE) can change the trap type between three options: "ちゅうりつ" (NEUTRAL) will make the trap affect the team but not any enemies, while "こっち" (PARTY) makes it affect enemies but not the team. "やせい" (ENEMY) appears to function the same as "NEUTRAL".
MAP#
Allows for the editing of various dungeon attributes.

Function |
|---|---|---|
てんき |
WEATHER |
Changes between 0-7, affecting the current weather after passing a turn. In order, these include Clear, Sunny, Sandstorm, Cloudy, Rain, Hail, Fog, and Snow. |
BGばんごう |
BG NO |
Changes the dungeon's tileset in real-time, between #0-63. This includes the unused tilesets. |
BGらんすう |
BG MODE |
Changes the placement of decorative wall and ground tiles in real-time between modes 0-3. 0 is the default behavior, 1 removes all decorative tiles, while 2 and 3 exclusively place the first or second type of decorative tile respectively. |
わなわすれ |
FORGET TRAP ALL |
Turns all stepped-on traps invisible again. This will also affect Wonder Tiles, as they are considered a trap internally. |
ターン |
TURN COUNT |
Changes the current amount of turns left until the stirring wind will blow the team out of the dungeon and cause a defeat. |
ドーンセット |
DISASTER |
Turns the current floor into a huge, single room. This is a similar effect to the One-Room Orb, but it will also turn any water/lava/void tiles into land. Oddly, however, any items on the floor apart from Poké will be placed in a single tile of water/lava/void if the dungeon includes secondary terrain. Additionally, any buried items will still keep their one tile of wall on top of them, making them easy to find. Furthermore, Monster Houses still require the player to walk to the location of the original room area to activate. |
モンスターハウス |
POKEMON-HOUSE |
More accurately translates to "Monster House". Switches between "ふつう" (Normal) and 100%. Setting this option to 100% will guarantee a Monster House spawn on the next floor, even in dungeons which normally do not feature them. |
おみせ |
SHOP |
Same options as above, except this will spawn a Kecleon Shop on the next floor. This will override the Monster House if both options are set to 100%. |
フロアにいどう |
DIRECT JUMP TO |
Jumps to a specified floor; -1 will keep the player on the current floor. This will also apply the Monster House and Shop options. |
ボーケンのりれき#
Does not appear to do anything that is visible to the player.
バランスかんれん#
Displays four values with an unknown purpose, which will change after attacking once.
DAMAGE CALCULATION LOG#
Displays a lot of information related to damage calculation. The variables will change after any attack.
SOUND LOG#
Displays a history of recently played music (BGM) and sound effect (SE) IDs.
EVENT/HABITAT#
Allows for warping to certain boss fights and/or cutscenes, if supported by the current dungeon.
Japanese |
Translation |
Function |
|---|---|---|
イベントばんごう |
EVENT NUMBER |
Jumps to a specified event, which consists of boss fights and a few cutscenes. The available selections will vary by dungeon, with many not having any events. |
フロアにいどう |
Jumps to a specified floor. |
|
なかま |
FRIEND |
Allows for the selection of any Pokémon, but does not appear to do anything in practice, even if the partner has been sent home. Selecting a boss event will automatically switch this variable to the relevant Pokémon. |
なかまそうさ |
Normally locked to "OFF", but will be set to "ON" if "FRIEND" is set to your current leader or partner; the latter will be set even if they've been sent home. Unsure if this does anything, it does not appear to affect cutscenes. |
|
フラグばんごう |
FLAG NUMBER |
Switches between 0-31. Unsure what this does, but it is presumably related to progression flags. |
フラグそうさ |
Switches between OFF and ON. Unsure once again, but presumably related to the previous flags. |
|
せいそくちぜんかい |
Has no apparent effect. |
Other Menu#
Includes more miscellaneous options.
Japanese |
Translation |
Function |
|---|---|---|
ついかこうか |
ATTACK-EFFECT |
Can be set between "つうじょう" (NORMAL) or 100%. Setting this to 100% will cause all chance-based secondary move effects to always trigger if used by the leader, such as Burn from Flamethrower or confusion from Psybeam. Additional status effects will either get added alongside the existing one or replace it. |
ダメージらんすう |
DAMAGE-POINT MODE |
Can be set between "あり" (ON) and "なし" (OFF), "ON" being the default. Setting this option to "OFF" will disable RNG calculation for attacks, causing the same attack used on the same Pokémon to deal a fixed amount of damage. Attacks are still affected by stats. |
かんじフォント |
KANJI FONT |
Set to zero and cannot be changed. Kanji is never used anywhere in this game besides the game's logo, but there may have been plans to include kanji earlier in development. Notably, the full dungeon debug font includes a number of kanji characters which appear to be unavailable even in this build. |
あたいひょうじ |
SHOW VALUES |
Setting this option to "OFF" will remove the debug numbers shown on the bottom left of the screen. |
アニメまち |
IDLE ANIMATION |
Can be changed between 2-150. This appears to have no effect. |
フロアにいどう |
DIRECT JUMP TO |
Jumps to the selected floor. |
たねメニュー |
FLOOR SEED OF RANDOM |
Allows for changing the random number seed (らんすうのたね), which will take effect on the next floor. Pressing right or left on the D-pad over each row of options will increase or decrease one of the eight digits. |
ふじみのおとこ |
IMMORTAL |
Enabling this option will always revive the leader upon fainting, even if there are no Reviver Seeds in the inventory. This does not affect the partner, whose defeat will still count as a loss if the main story has not been completed. |
おとこおんな |
MALE FEMALE |
Changes the border of the text boxes between blue (male) and pink (female). |
ゆびをふる |
METRONOME |
Can be set between 0-105. Setting this number to anything but 105 will make the move Metronome use the specified move only. This appears to use a separate ID list specifically for the moves Metronome is allowed to use. |
こまおくり |
FRAME ADVANCE |
Can be set between "なし" (OFF) and "あり" (ON). Setting this to ON will make the L button freeze the game until it is released. Useful, but not exactly how you'd expect a frame advance feature to work... |
しあわせすう |
HAPPINESS COUNT |
Defaults at 50 and can be set between 1-200. Does not appear to have any effect. |
だっしゅつ |
EXIT DUNGEON |
Exits the dungeon, showing a "mission success" screen. If the dungeon is entered through the top debug menu, this will return the player to the main menu. |
TOUCH PANEL#
Disables most button inputs and displays values for testing the touch screen. Lower on the screen a timer can be seen, which will count from 0000 to 000C at the start of any touch screen use. Pressing B will end this test.
Description |
|
|---|---|
DATA |
Precisely detects the position of any touch screen use. |
PRES |
Precisely detects the position while the touch screen is pressed, stationary or moving. |
HOLD |
Roughly detects the position if the touch screen is held on a single spot. This will deactivate if the stylus is moved more than slightly after pressing. |
EDGE |
Precisely detects where the touch screen is pressed at first, lasting until the timer returns to 000C. |
CLIC |
Detects if the touch screen is quickly tapped. Works with a slight delay as in regular gameplay. |
DBLC |
Detects if the touch screen is tapped twice in the same spot. The second tap has to be done before the timer reaches 000C. |
