This is a sub-page of Proto:Jurassic Park: Trespasser/Build 96.

The Beach level is a tadbit different than the final's version. Most of the differences are pretty small but enough to be notable. As for earlier prototypes, the only iteration to go off of is a very incomplete version in Build 55, which has almost nothing started at all.

The Beach's Shore#

Airplane Wheel#

In the final, the only remnants of the plane are a piece of driftwood (which looks like the door to the restroom Anne was blowing chunks inside in the opening cutscene) and the plane's tail. In Build 96, the driftwood floating in the water isn't present. Instead, the wheel to the plane can be found washed up on shore. This was removed in the final for unknown reasons. Parts of the plane were most likely moved over because by the time Beach was started, Plantation House had already been dropped and the Cathy's Beach Easter Egg had to be merged with Jungle Road, making the plane parts in JR unneeded.

Missing Rocks#

In the final, there are generally rocks accompanying this invisible wall where Anne says she doesn't want to swim in the ocean. Here in Build 96 though however, the rocks are absent making it look rather strange with the invisible wall only present.

The Foundations#

The Greatest Discovery of the 20th Century#

This Hammond voice-over isn't played anywhere in the final. As with the voice-over below, it plays before Anne even knows she's on Site B.

Broken Axe Handle Voice-Over#

A voice-over that normally is only played in the Ingen Town level will play here if you pick up this axe handle. According to some development documents, supposedly the developers wanted to add ghostly echos of Hammond before Anne actually knew she was on Site B. This explains the hidden Hammond voice-over found when climbing to the top of the "Jungle Gym". The trigger for the broken Axe Handle voice-over still exists in the final but it seems to have been disabled for some reason.

Trash Can and Stuff#

This Trashcan and matching lid are not found here in the final. Neither is that Iron Pry Bar inside of the trash can (but there are pry bars later on in the level).

The Fence#

Unlike the final, the shooting range doesn't exist. Also, there is only one fence. Originally, the Ingen Sign was supposed to be inside the fence rather than outside as in Build 96 and the final. When production started, the Beach level was planned to be very short. As soon as the player exited the fence, Jungle Road would start up and the player would trek on the path they do afterwards in the Beach level. For whatever reason, the earlier builds of JR do not reflect this however, and instead begin shortly after the location of the first Raptor encounter in Beach. Then as things were getting finalized, Jungle Road was shortened to begin after the monorail terminal and the monorail terminal section of JR was moved over to Beach.

As for this fence, it's different in the final. In the final, the player could either push open the gate or do a crate puzzle and climb over it. However, here there's a hole with two wooden boards over it that can be walked under to get to the other side.

The Jungles and Beyond#

Ingen Sign#

The sign was moved to the left in the final. However, here in Build 96, it's in the middle of the road which looks rather strange.

Anne Voice-Over#

This voice-over is played much earlier in the level than it is in the final. In the final, it isn't played until Anne is close to the area with the first Raptor Encounter.

The Truck Tailgate#

There was a reason this was removed. Sadly, it didn't stop custom level designers from using it, even with its problems.

This Tailgate was removed from the final. Quite possibly because objects could get caught inside of it if moved into it wrong and cause a physics engine freak out crash Trespasser is infamous for.

Supply Crate#

The custom level designers even use this box despite the known issues. Trespasser_b96_Supply_Box_2.png

This Supply Crate found on the same truck was actually removed from the play area in the final. However, it can still be found in the Beach level's basement in the final. Due to how buggy taking weapons out of it was, it was eventually left to rot in the level's basement unused.

Does it look like Anne's holding it weird? You be the judge.

As for the Hunting Rifle that was inside, it was left behind and still exists in the final. However, in prototype 96, something about the way Anne holds it seems awkward (well, more awkward than holding it with one hand usually looks).

The Brachiosaurus Plateau#

One of these Brachs likes to wander around further distances than the other one does.

The Brachiosaurs in this area are here in the final. However, one of them seems to ignore staying near anchors and walks where it pleases. Also, the Brachiosaurs seem to have no sounds defined and are silent.

The hill the player could use to climb up as an alternative to the crate puzzle doesn't exist in the prototype. Also, the music track "REVEAL OF THE DINOSAUR PLAINS" doesn't play, nor does the Hammond and Anne voice-overs regarding the Brachiosaurs. However, the voice-over trigger regarding the May rains exists at this point.

The First Raptor Area#

In the final, this is where the player encounters their first Raptor. Here in the prototype it is the same, however this Raptor is harmless unless injured. It will use the bool ActSniff = True command on the player when close and will follow them around and not attack.

A Different Way to Climb the Slope#

That bridge on the ground would have been here had Mr. Sniffsalot here not walked over it and killed himself activating the prototype's teleport glitch.

In the final, the player had to mess with a bridge that acted like a Teeter-Totter. This bridge is here in the proto but there is another bridge laying on the ground. Above it is a tree trunk that was knocked down and can be climbed on.

Trespasser_b96_Unused_Anne_Voice_Over_beach_1.png Trespasser_b96_unused_anne_voice_over_beach_2.png

Reaching the top reveals a missing Supply Cabinet that is found in the final and an extra Anne voice-over not heard in the final (after a Hammond voice-over that is played in this spot in both the prototype and final).

Up ahead, in the final there's another Raptor and a rock that it sits behind to catch the player off guard. However, in the prototype, neither of these exist making the trek to the Monorail station much safer and the amount of guns in this level totally pointless.

The Pickup Truck#

This Pickup Truck has a hood. Most hoods in the final were removed due to bugs involving collision. The hood can actually be moved up and down.

The Monorail Station#

Not much is different from the final. About the only thing that stands out from the final is the fact the voice box is missing and a temporary cube trigger is in its place. These grey cubes are quite common in the prototypes and will be discussed more later.

The Gates#

This bar on the ground here is trouble! Welcome, to Jurassic Pa...er I mean Jungle Road...

In the final, this gate still has its hinge magnets. However, the doors and sliding bar were made immobile. This was done because the slider bar could either kill Anne or freak out the physics engine and crash the game if taken out wrong. In the prototype, this becomes apparent right away if the player tries to pull it out. While most of the time the player may remove it okay, it can still cause little scares if it moves too much. As for the doors, physics freak outs with the bar could sometimes cause them to blast open and get stuck in the concrete walls potentially. Exiting here ends the level, as does jumping the fence from the tracks like in the final.
