This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Pac-Man World (PlayStation).

Pac-Man World was a second time at E3 1999 on May 13th, 1999. Prior to this, several screenshots were released to the press for use in their posts. These seem to have been obtained during the development of the first playable demo since they represent several similarities but they may also be prior to this since it is not known exactly. The vast majority were provided by GameSpot since they are the only ones that can be found in the official and unofficial magazines of the time.

These images were prepared in advance as it can be seen that they represent an earlier preview version of the game that was playable on the E3 show floor. This can be reinforced as the HUD icons have a different layout and the font size of the score is larger.

The levels shown in this version are Buccaneer Beach, Corsair's Cove, Crisis Cavern, Space Race, Clowning Around, and Ghostly Garden. Also shown are some mazes like Ruins Maze #2, Space Maze #3, Funhouse Maze #1, Funhouse Maze #2, and Funhouse Maze #4.

Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine (June 1999 Issue)#

In the June 1999 issue, Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine published a short article on Pac-Man World that told us how Namco was commemorating the 20th anniversary of one of the world's first and most popular video game characters with this new 3D adventure. However, they are only placed in an image that shows us part of the "Ghostly Garden" level that seems to have been obtained from a preview version prior to the development of the first playable demo. This image could be provided by GameSpot since they also show us part of that level but could not say it exactly.

Ghostly Garden#

Pac-Man_World_Prerelease_Pre-E3_1999_OPM_Ghostly_Garden.png

At first glance we cannot find any difference but what can be highlighted is that the Pac-Dots count in the HUD is 60. This is incorrect since at that point in the level the maximum that we can obtain is 31 Pac-Dots, Maybe in this version the first section contained more Pac-Dots and some additional ghosts that had to be removed due to space issues.

  • We can see that in the upper left part of the screen the fence is not present in this version.

PSExtreme Magazine (July 1999 Issue)#

In the July 1999 issue, PSExtreme magazine published an article on Pac-Man World that covered pretty much the first version of the playable demo. The most interesting thing about the article is that it tells us that the game presents six unique worlds and each one of which consists of three levels, that is, a total of eighteen in the entire game.
