On May 16th, 2006, GamePro released issue 213 (with a cover date of June 2006). The issue contained an exclusive preview for the game, a Mario history section, and an interview with Takashi Tezuka, the game's producer. On pages 42 and 43 (featuring the interview with Takashi Tezuka), concept art of the game is placed around the two page spread. No dates are provided for any of the sketches1.
Enemies#
On page 41 are sketches of the Kab-omb and Broozer enemies. Both enemies showcase their final designs, but Kab-omb has a different Japanese name; instead of "花火爆弾平" (Hanabi Bomuhei), it's "花火くん" (Hanabi-kun). "Kun" in Japanese usually refers to a younger individual.
Curiously, when asked about new enemies, Takashi Tezuka responds that the team didn't give the new enemies any names.
TT: (...) In addition to these known enemies, we have created some new enemies, which in fact we have not given any names to. These new enemies are characteristic enemies that match the Mario world.

Objects#
On page 42 are various sketches of the Warp Cannon. Some of the cannons have a fuse sticking out, and some have a giant W on them (probably to refer to this being a warp). One of the more interesting cannons is on the bottom left of the page, featuring Professor E. Gadd's logo, suggesting he may have played a (minor) role in the game at some point in development.

World Map#
On page 42 is concept art of the world select (ワールドセレクト), showcasing all eight worlds (clockwise, starting from the top image: Worlds 8, 6, 4, 2, 1, 3, 7 and 5). The most notable of these worlds are World 4 and World 6. World 4 retains its ancient/prehistoric theme as seen in the early world selection menu icons left over in the final game, showing a volcano and a lake. World 6 retains its volcano theme as seen in 2005 screenshots from Famitsu magazine and closely matches the description of one of the unused level backgrounds/tilesets - "kazangake" (meaning "volcano cliffs"). It seems like this concept art may be later than the early world selection menu icons, as most of the icons are more detailed, and World 6 and 8 appear closer to their final designs. It seems like the world order may be the same as in the final - it zig-zags, except for the placement of World 5 and World 7 - but those are in the final game's order in the unused icons, so its likely that is just a fluke.
