Mushrooms/Athletic#
|
|
To do: |
ID 13, 14 - "kinoko" (mushroom). This is paired with the standard mushrooms/athletic tileset, but levels with that tileset never use this background. It most closely resembles the background used for W4-Cannon in the final game, and also resembles both the final field backgrounds, and early field backgrounds seen in pre-release footage (although the latter may have been used for athletic levels too).
Volcano Cliffs#
|
|
To do: |
ID 16, 22 - "kazangake" (volcano cliffs). A variation of the "outside volcano" tileset - ID 15 - "kazan" (volcano). It appears to be a volcanic mountain area set during the day. A similar background and tileset appear in pre-release material, but the background contained a red sky. If this is just an alternate variation of said background is unknown. Note that the early World 4 icon both has volcanoes and a similar palette.
Mini Bonus Room#
ID 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72 - "mame" (mini). The one used in the final is called "mame_bonus" - its not known if there's any meaning behind "bonus" being used there, or its just there to distinguish it from the unused one. This tileset is paired with these backgrounds:
NES Sprites - Lakitu#
Mario in his death animation, alongside Lakitu.
NES Sprites - Bowser#
Fire Mario running towards Bowser.
NES Sprites - Swimming#
Mario and Luigi swimming.
NES Sprites - Vine#
Fire Mario climbing a vine through the clouds and a pink sky.
NES Sprites - Mario & Luigi#
Mario and Luigi running and jumping.
Underground 2#
ID 36 - "chika2" (underground 2). An underground cave background and tileset.
This background's bottom layer looks broken when loaded in-game because the game loads the wrong tileset file: /BG_ncg/d_2d_I_M_back_chika3_ncg.bin (bottom layer tileset for background ID 35) instead of /BG_ncg/d_2d_I_M_back_chika2_ncg.bin.
Here is the bottom layer as seen in the game (left) and the way it was intended to appear (right):
Underground 3#
ID 73 - "chika3" (underground 3). Red rocky underground. Paired with the similar tileset.
