This is a sub-page of Prerelease:Mario Super Sluggers.

Many gameplay screenshots seen throughout various menus in the game depict earlier builds like the ones seen during pre-release.

Title Screen Background#

Title Screen

Mario Stadium

The background image of Mario Stadium on the title screen depicts an early version of the stadium evident by the extra cloud behind the lighthouse, as well as the cloud on the left being shifted to the right a bit. Both of these differences were present in the Nintendo Fall Press Conference 2007 build, meaning that this image was taken very early in development.

Stadiums#

Mario Stadium#

In-Game

Comparison

Although hard to notice normally in-game, the Nintendo logo on the scoreboard in the preview image of the day version of Mario Stadium is bigger than the in-game stadium model.

Both the preview images for the day and night version of Peach Ice Garden feature brighter stage lights, instead of the dimmer ones in-game. This can be seen easily when the stadium loads over the preview images for both versions. The night version notably has different lighting for the stage light's reflection on the ice rink, as well as a different reflection texture below the stadium.

The textures for the stage lights in the preview images can be found unused in the files for both the day and night versions.

Daisy Cruiser#

Preview Image

In-Game

In Daisy Cruiser, the preview image depicts the tables with an early formation than the one seen as the stadium model loads in-game. This is likely a screenshot taken early during development before the final table formations were changed for the final game.

Toy Field#

Stadium (JP Final)

Reflection Texture (Final)

Stadium (Early)

Reflection Texture (Early)

The reflection that can be seen in the ceiling of Toy Field is reflecting the early version of Toy Field, as a few details from the early version can be spotted in the final version:

  • The reflection texture has the separate panels where the "GRAND SLAM!" panel would be, being one panel in the final instead of multiple.
  • Two panels in the far middle, namely both 60 Coin panels in the final appear slimmer in the early version and the reflection texture.
  • Three extra lights are present behind home plate in the early version, which were removed in the final version.

Aside from the texture being a leftover from the early version of Toy Field, all the panels, the background hills and mushrooms are missing textures in the reflection texture.

Pitching#

Curve Right, Curve Left, & Changeup#

MSSExplanationScreenshotRightPitch.png MSSExplanationScreenshotLeftPitch.png MSSExplanationScreenshotChangeup.png

The pitching screenshots for curving the ball right, left, and throwing a change-up shows the ball with it's unseen orange outline.

Star Pitch#

The Star Pitch screenshot has an opaque Nintendo logo on the stadium walls behind the batter's box, like in the Nintendo Fall Press Conference 2007 build.

Fielding#

Move#

The moving screenshot for fielding has Mario's shadow casted straight down on the grass instead of an angle. This was present in screenshots of Mario Stadium shown in the Nintendo Fall Press Conference 2007 build.

Buddy Toss#

The buddy toss screenshot not only shows the ball's unseen orange outline, but an closer camera angle while performing a buddy toss. This is most likely an early version of the buddy toss camera that plays while on the outfield.

Running#

Error Items#

In the Japanese version, the screenshot for error items depicts a screenshot directly taken from the Nintendo Fall Press Conference 2007 build.

  • The Star Meter is missing the Star Skill icon next to Mario's icon
  • Mario's leg has early lighting.
  • Mario appears to have moved around vertically in the batter's box as he is seen on the top edge of it instead of the middle. This was a batting mechanic from Mario Superstar Baseball that was likely planned to have been brought over.

Using Items#

The screenshot for using error items has the fielding camera at a different angle, similar to the one from Mario Superstar Baseball. Wario also uses early lighting in the screenshot.

Cheer#

In the Japanese version, the screenshot for the cheering minigame that occurs during and RBI chance had a different design than the one in-game.

  • The screenshot doesn't have the team logo with the CHANCE! text above the notes, instead there's red text reading "Let's cheer them on!".
  • The music note marker doesn't appear along the bar with the notes, likely meaning that this version had the notes slide towards the left of the bar instead of staying in place.
  • Above the last two notes, graphics of two bats hitting each other are used to represent shaking the Wii-Remote with the beat.

In Bob-omb Derby, the screenshot showing how to swing in the control explanation screen for both single and multiplayer versions of the minigame shows the it taking place on a mix between the early night version of Mario Stadium and the final version, as the sign of Mario's hat on top of the scoreboard can be spotted.

Toy Field Batting Explanation Screenshot#

The Japanese version of the batting explanation screenshot in Toy Field shows Mario with a different idle animation for batting, with his legs bent down further and the bat held at a slightly different angle. Mario also isn't casting a shadow in the batter's box.

DK Jungle Overworld Funky Shop#

The DK Jungle Challenge Mode map photo with Mario being launched from the barrel cannon has a surfboard on the top reading Funky on the shop building, which was removed in the final version. Though the sign is not present in the map, the texture for the sign still exists for the shop sign's texture.
