Gameplay#

  • The batting camera is positioned closer to the batter and zoomed out a bit.
  • The outfielding camera is angled differently, similarly to the one in Mario Superstar Baseball.
  • The camera for Mario's Fire Swing animation zooms out way farther than in the final game.
  • The shots of Mario and Bowser have the camera closer to them.
  • The background shot of Mario and Bowser is different and grayed out.

Stadiums#

Mario Stadium#

  • The Nintendo logo on the scoreboard is a little bigger, but shrunken a bit in the final. The Nintendo logos on the stadium walls are opaque and bigger.
  • The left cloud in the background was shifted left a bit. An additional cloud can be seen behind the lighthouse.
  • Character shadows are casted differently, being pointed straight down instead of at an angle.

Yoshi Park#

  • Early shading can be seen on the wooden rims of the tunnel the Yoshi Train passes through, the cardboard trees, and the pipes on the outfield.
  • The Ferris Wheel has no Shy Guys.
  • The leaves and fruits aren't present in the background bush.

Wario City#

  • The Eiffel Tower structure in the background had different shading.
  • The brown background building in the left is colored a bit differently in the pre-release image.

Characters#

  • Early lighting can be seen on the characters.
  • Mario is using a different animation for charging up a swing.
  • Mario and Bowser Jr. have different expressions in the pre-release screenshots. These expressions show up in the final game during a replay, due to a glitch.
  • Mario is making an angry expression on his face, rather than a neutral expression.

Visual Effects#

  • The trails for a normal swing, a charge pitch, and throwing in the outfield are brighter, similar to Mario Superstar Baseball.
  • The charge-up effect that appears around the characters when batting and pitching is reused from Mario Superstar Baseball.
  • One of the biggest changes from these pre-release screenshots are the star swings not having backgrounds.
  • An extra fire effect circling around Mario during his Star Swing animation. Mario's bat also doesn't light on fire during his Star Swing animation. The fire effects for the ball when Mario hits it were much darker and bigger.
  • The Bullet Bill in Bowser's Killer Ball ability produces more smoke, which was toned down in translucency in the final game.

HUD#

  • The team logo for the Mario Fireballs has a smaller M, and a slightly altered design for the baseball
  • The team logo for the Yoshi Eggs is reused from Mario Superstar Baseball. This was changed to a new logo of a green Y in front of a Yoshi egg in the final.
  • The Team Star icon is nowhere to be seen on the star meter. Instead, it shows above the star meter when a star swing has been filled up. The amount of Star Skills available is not present.
  • The glove icon for the pitcher is mirrored.
  • The Star Skill icon plays a different shining animation.
  • The item roulette while batting cycles at a slower speed through the items.
