GTA 2 Radio Promo#

Watch on YouTube

Nearing the release of GTA 2, the now defunct promotional website featured a downloadable audio file simply titled 'GTA2audio.mp3' that showcased to listeners what could be expected from the in-game radio stations. There are some notable audible differences when compared to the final release, and while there's no guarantee that they're indicative of any real changes to the planned line-ups, they're still important to mention as they could be indicative of other creative ideas an/or during production.

  • At around 1:03 during the Head Radio segment, the initial "Head Radio in the morning" station identifier is followed by Johnny Riccaro bantering about traffic overtop Reed's "L.E.D.", which can only be heard on Futuro FM in the final game. This could suggest that the song was possibly considered for the Head Radio line-up at some point, and that Johnny was intended to come in after the station identifier rather than Phanny Joe Styles like in the final game. It's also important to note that Johnny's banter about traffic is not present in the final game.
  • At 1:36, during the K.I.N.G. segment as Marshall Nash mentions his 8-track player, two notable distinctions are evident: firstly, the background track was "Give a Dog a Bonus" from DMA Design's prior game, Space Station Silicon Valley, instead of the unknown looping rock track featured in the final game. Secondly, when Nash says, "I remember when I made them," there were record scratches for added comedic effect, further implying that the radio vinyl track was pirated. "Taxi Drivers Must Die" plays immediately afterwards, but it's unclear whether or not it's indicative of a line-up change.
  • Oddly at around 3:02, the KREZ station identifier is immediately followed by Phanny Joe Styles commentating over Flytronix's "Pendulum", a song featured in Johnny's segment on Head Radio in the final game. While it's unlikely that she was intended to be the host for KREZ, this could signify a potential shift in direction for the Head Radio line-up.

Prequel#

Watch on YouTubeOriginally used during the flash movie introduction of the now defunct GTA 2 website, albeit in a significantly lower quality than uploaded here. It is likely in reference to a common media trope where the first track on a music album features a short introductory song that prefaces the tone and general sound of the album.

Chart Show#

Watch on YouTubeFormerly available for download as 'chart.zip' from the now defunct GTA 2 website. It is formatted similarly to the chart show on Head Radio in the first Grand Theft Auto game, but unlike the original, was not included on the station in-game. The chart show also mentions 'GTA 2' by name, so it can be assumed that it was never meant to appear in-game and was a solely promotional production. However, it likely does lend some context as to which songs are most popular in-universe, evidenced by Davidson's "All I Wanna Do" both being in the number one spot here and appearing on the most amount of radio stations in-game when compared to any other song on the soundtrack.
