This is a sub-page of Development:The Simpsons: Hit & Run/Models.

To do:
Should this be arranged by Level for easier organisation?

A list of scrapped environmental stuff that could've been knocked over all over Springfield.

Static World Objects#

Beer Keg#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_beerkegmetal_Shape.p3d is a beer keg, possibly intended to appear in Moe's Tavern.

Benches#

Flat Bench#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_bench_Shape.p3d is a bench that doesn't appear in the final game.

Metal Bench#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_benchmetal_Shape.p3d is an early version of the benches that appear around the Sit-N-Rotate. It has transparent holes cut out of the texture, unlike the final version.

Bicycle#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_bike.p3d is a bicycle. This bicycle is seen in the Simpsons' house garage and on a fence during the opening FMV, but is not seen in-game at all. This suggests that the garage was intended to be accessible at some point in development.

Casket#

game\exportartlibrary\l07\l7_casket_Shape.p3d is an animated model of a casket.

Cemetery#

Gravestones#

There exist some early gravestone models intended for the cemetery in Level 1.

File Path

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1r7_cemgravea_Shape.p3d

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1r7_cemgraveb_Shape.p3d

Grave#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1r7_grave_Shape.p3d is a model of a grave mound, also intended for the cemetery.

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_chainlinkfence_Shape.p3d is a broken chainlink fence.

Construction Site#

Barricade#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_signconstB_Shape.p3d is a traffic barricade with a flashing light on top.

Cone#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_signconstA_Shape.p3d is a traffic cone.

Duff Truck#

game\exportart\levels\L03\z4\dynamics\l3_Dufftruck_Shape is an earlier model of the Duff trailers found at the Duff Brewery in Level 3 and 6, with an additional semi-truck attached to the front. This model can be seen in the Level 6 FMV in the final game. The textures for the semi-truck still exist in the final game.

Fire Hydrant#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z2_tree.p3d is, despite the filename, actually an early version of the fire hydrant found in Level 1. Its texture is a more vibrant red, and is noticably less compressed than the final. The export data in the file dates it to June 25, 2002, making it one of the oldest models present in the leak.

Garage Door#

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_glassgar_Shape.p3d is a glass garage door.

Hooked Vent#

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_hookvent_Shape.p3d is an air vent.

Lawnmower#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_lawnmower_Shape.p3d is a model of a lawnmower. Note that since this is a world object, it is likely unrelated to the collectible lawnmower that appears in Petty Theft Homer in the final game.

Lemonade Stand#

game\exportartlibrary\l07\l7_lemonade.p3d is an earlier model for the lemonade stand in Level 1. Oddly, it is found in the files for Level 7, which does not have a lemonade stand in the final game.

Mailboxes#

A number of mailbox models (some more complete than others) exist for characters who do not have mailboxes, or even houses, in the final game.

Principal Skinner

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_mailboxskinner_Shape.p3d

There also exist early versions of mailboxes that appear in the final game.

Cletus' Mailbox#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l07\l1_mailboxcletus_Shape.p3d is an early version of Cletus' mailbox, where his surname is erroneously written as "Del Roy" rather than "Spuckler". "Del Roy" is actually Cletus' middle name.

Moe's Mailbox#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l07\l1_mailboxmoe_Shape.p3d is an early version of Moe's mailbox, which has his first name written on it as opposed to his surname.

Megaphones#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_megaphones_Shape.p3d is a model of some megaphones on a pole. This was possibly intended for street races, as it uses the same textures as the start line prop.

Nuclear Waste Barrel#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z6_barrel_Shape.p3d is an early version of the Nuclear Waste Barrel in Homer's workstation. The final version has the lid opened, and is missing the skull and crossbones decal.

Patio Table#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_patiotable_Shape.p3d is a model of a patio table and some chairs, intended for Level 2 and 5. The table and chair models were re-used for Level 3 and 6 in the final game (with an umbrella added to the table), however there the table and chairs are separate props. Here, the objects are all a single combined prop.

Pelican#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_pelican_Shape.p3d is an early model of the pelicans seen at the docks in Level 3. It has smaller eyes, longer legs, and significantly less detailed textures.

Power Coupling#

Early 1

Early 2

Final

There exist two early versions of the power couplings used in Blind Big Brother. The earliest version, in game\exportart\pcart\levels\L01B\z6\animated\pp\powerbox1.p3d, is purple and has no Tesla coils on top. The second version, in game\exportartlibrary\l07\l1z6_powerbox_Shape.p3d, is green and has the Tesla coils pointing towards each other (and also missing the glowing domes on the end). The first version matches the concept art found in High_Level_Design.doc, shape-wise.

The HUD icon for the power couplings uses the second early model, though with the final orange texture.

Retirement Castle#

Chair#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z4_retchair_Shape.p3d is a rocking chair intended for the Retirement Castle.

Table#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z4_rettable_Shape.p3d is a table that would have gone with the rocking chairs.

Wireframe of the early Retirement Castle

It's worth noting that both of these files have "l1z4" in their filename, even though in the final game the Retirement Castle appears in l1z2.p3d. Indeed, the early wireframe map for Zone 4 found at documents\QA\Collision Testing\Level 1\Zone 4 Collision.psd shows an early Retirement Castle with the rocking chair and table (barely) visible on the front porch.

Shrubs#

Low Shrub#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_shrublowbig_Shape.p3d is a leafy shrub.

Round Shrub#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_shrubround_Shape.p3d is a round shrub. Its texture has holes cut out of it, which no shrubs in the final game do.

Springfield Elementary#

Chair#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z3_studentschair_Shape.p3d is an early chair model for the school, completely different to the one that appears in the final game.

This version is an interactable object while the final is a static mesh. Combined with the fact that the filename contains l1z3 (the region containing the school exterior) and not l1i00 (the region containing the school interior), this perhaps suggests that the inside of the school was planned to be accessible from the main map (like in The Simpsons: Road Rage).

Desk#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z3_studentsdesk_Shape.p3d is an early desk model for the school, to go with the chair. Again, it is an interactable object while the final is a static mesh.

Light#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1z3_schoollight_Shape.p3d is a light intended for the school. Its industrial design looks like it would fit more in a utility room or something, rather than in the main building.

Store Boards#

There exist models of sandwich boards for various stores in Level 2, similar to the boards that appear outside the Android's Dungeon and Crypto Barn in Level 3. Two of these stores - Cheques Cashed and Zesty's Pizza - do not appear in the final game (Cheques Cashed does appear in The Simpsons: Road Rage, however).

Image

File Path

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_boardbooks_Shape.p3d

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_boardcaffe_Shape.p3d

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_boardcheques_Shape.p3d

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_boardzestypizza_Shape.p3d

The texture for the Cheques Cashed board also contains a sign for a 'Videos' store that doesn't appear in the final game.

Race Arrow#

game\exportartlibrary\l05\l2_racearrow_Shape.p3d is an arrow with a blinking texture animation, presumably intended for street races.

Street Lamps#

Docks Street Lamp#

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_docklampa_Shape.p3d is a street lamp intended for the docks area in Level 3, resembling the design seen in the concept art. No Level 6 variant exists.

Krusty Banner Street Lamp#

Early 1

Early 2

Final

Two early versions of the Krusty Banner streetlamp in Level 2 and 5 exist. One, in game\exportart\levels\L02\z4\dynamics\z4_dynamics.p3d, uses a different pole texture but the same banner texture as the final. The other, in game\exportartlibrary\l05\l5_streetlampbannerdr_Shape.p3d, uses the same pole texture but a different banner texture to the final.

Level 1/4 Old Street Lamp#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_oldstreetlamp_Shape.p3d is a 4-bulb street lamp for Level 1 and 4, similar to the ones seen in Level 2 and 5. The final game only uses the single-bulb variant, l1_oldstreetlampsingle_Shape.

Level 3/6 Old Street Lamp#

SHARDev_l3oldstreetlamp.png SHAR_proto_mis06_07.png

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_oldstreetlamp_Shape.p3d is the same for Level 3 and 6. Again, the final game only uses the single-bulb variant. The object can be seen in the July 3, prototype mission briefing image for Going to the 'Lu and Kang and Kodos Strike Back.

Level 1/4 Street Lamp#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l07\l1_StreetLamp_Shape.p3d is an early version of Level 1 and 4's street lamp model. It is thinner and has a triangular shaft, while the final's shaft is square. It uses a different texture, and the texture mapping is clearly unfinished.

Level 2/5 Street Lamp#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_streetlampdr_Shape.p3d is an early version of Level 2 and 5's street lamp model. Again, it uses a different texture and has unfinished texture mapping, however the mesh itself is identical to the final game's.

Swing#

Early

Final

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_swing_Shape.p3d is an early version of the swingset gag in the Simpsons' back yard (and nearby park). This version is just a simple physics object, not a gag, and its textures are obviously unfinished.

Trees#

Level 1/4/7 Big Dead Tree#

Early

Final (Cemetery)

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_treebigdead_Shape.p3d is a big dead tree meant to appear in Level 1, 4, and 7. This was possibly intended for the Cemetery, which in the final game uses a a different dead tree model with a spookier, more cartoon-y design.

Level 1/4 Small Dead Tree#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_treesmdead_Shape.p3d is a small dead tree intended for Level 1 and 4. Similar dead trees appear in Level 2/5 and Level 7 in the final game, however they are smaller and have more branches than this model.

Level 2/5 Small Yellow Tree#

game\exportartlibrary\l02\l2_treesmyel_Shape.p3d is a birch tree with yellow-y leaves, intended for Level 2 and 5. No birch trees appear in the final game.

Level 3/6 Docks Tree#

SHARDev_docktreesm.png An prerelease screenshot showing this tree model on the boardwalk in Level 6

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_docktreesm_Shape.p3d is a potted tree that was meant to appear on the boardwalk in Level 3 and 6.

Level 3/6 Big Tree#

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_treebig_Shape.p3d is a larger potted tree, also possibly intended for the boardwalk in Level 3 and 6.

Level 3/6 Small Tree#

game\exportartlibrary\l03\l3_treesm_Shape.p3d is a squashed-looking tree intended for Level 3 and 6.

Tricycle#

game\exportartlibrary\l01\l1_bigwheel_Shape.p3d is a toy tricycle.
