Player's House#

Early
MINKA_1F.MAP

Spaceworld '97
HERO01.MAP

Final
HERO_1.MAP

An earlier version of the player's house. The fridge is missing, and the exit carpet is centered.

Player's Bedroom#

Early
MINKA_2F.MAP

Spaceworld '97
HERO02.MAP

Final (Unused)
HERO_2.MAP

Final
MROOM.MAP

An early version of the player's room. It lacks the second bed, and most of the decoration, but does have an extra window and table. The latter ultimately made a comeback in later iterations of this map, albeit in a shrunken form, and without chairs.

Poké Mart#

Spaceworld '97 (Correct Width)

Spaceworld '97 (Incorrect Width)

Source Map
SHOP01.MAP

Final
FS_01.MAP

A smaller version of the Poké Mart that seems to match the size of the glitched Marts from the Spaceworld '97 demo. Evidently, this map stuck around well into the 1999 revamp, with this map being seen in prerelease material as late as April 1999. Nonetheless, by the Spaceworld '99 demo, it had been replaced with the final map, albeit with an unrefined tileset.

Trainers' School#

Earlier
TRAINE02.MAP

Spaceworld '97
TRAINER2.MAP

Final
TC_01.MAP

An earlier version of the Trainers' School found in Old, a duplicate also found under TRAUNE02.MAP. It makes use of an earlier version of the school tileset, which lacks the tower elements found in the later Spaceworld '97 tileset. Lacks the bookshelf in the top left corner, but has extra shadows not present in any later version.

An early version of the variant used for Pokémon League buildings also exists as TRAINE01.MAP and TRAUNE01.MAP.

Old City's Gym#

Source Map
RE_01.MAP

Spaceworld '97
LE_01.MAP

An early version of the Pokémon League building in Old, which also makes use of the early school tileset. Structurally similar to the Spaceworld '97 map, but much more linear, and with stairs instead of an entrance mat. This map is also smaller than the Spaceworld version.

Bill's House#

Spaceworld '97

Source Map

MASAKI.MAP is an interesting little map that makes use of the updated Radio Tower blockset. Its name suggests it was meant to be Bill's house. In comparison, in the Spaceworld '97 demo, Bill's house is located in Old, and it uses a slightly tweaked version of the traditional interior map.

West Rocket Building#

ROCKE_W.MAP is a map that uses the Hideout blockset. Given the file names of the other hideouts, ROCKE_F.MAP (Font), and ROCKE_S1.MAP / ROCKE_S2.MAP (Stand), this map was likely meant for West. There were already plans in the '97 demo for there to be a Rocket takeover in West, so the devs may have considered to add a base there too.

Port#

Source Map (SW97 Tileset)

Source Map (Gen I Tileset)

PORT.MAP is a map that makes use of the "port" tileset, which is present in the Spaceworld '97 demo, but is not assigned to any map, used or not. The corresponding port blockset was updated when compared to its Generation I equivalent, though sadly parts of its tileset were accidentally overwritten with the overworld graphics. This port would have likely taken the player between West, High-Tech, and Font.

Magnet Train Station#

Source Map

Spaceworld '99

Final

An early version of what would become Goldenrod Station in the final game. Uses different floor tiling, and has trees for decoration. The back wall uses a gradient, similar to the Spaceworld '99 version. The file name for this map is the same as the final one: STATION.MAP.

Aquarium#

Spaceworld '97

Source Map

2F

1F

AQA_1F.MAP and AQA_2F.MAP, which are for the aquarium in High-Tech, have some differences. For small changes, the stairs were moved from the bottom west corner to the northeastern corner of the map. As for the Lapras statue, it was replaced by one of a generic fisherman.

Dojo#

Spaceworld '97

Source Map
KAKUTOU.MAP

A later version of the dojo found in New Type. Its size was cut in half, and it features scrolls on the back wall behind where the tables were in Spaceworld '97. Said scrolls are exclusive to the updated interior tileset.

Game Corner#

Spaceworld '97

Later

A set of potted plants in the bottom-left corner have been removed. More notably, a set of ascending stairs has been added, which would have led to an area containing the Poker and Memory Match games.

Unknown Lab#

Source Map
CHYUKID.MAP

Spaceworld '97
OOKIDO02.MAP

A map that resembles the backroom in Oak's lab. It is called CHYUKID.MAP.

Treasure House#

Source Map
GOJYU.MAP

Spaceworld '97
TAKARA.MAP

This room resembles a smaller version of the Treasure House found in Old City; it may have been an earlier iteration of said building. Its internal name is GOJYU.MAP; meanwhile, the Treasure House is called TAKARA.MAP, and the Five-Story Pagoda uses maps GOJYU01 thru GOJYU05.

Modern-style NPC Houses#

Used#

Spaceworld '97

Source Map
MINKA01.MAP

One of two variants of the "modern" NPC house, MINKA01.MAP. The Spaceworld '97 version of the kitchen area featured an out-of-place N64 and an extra TV. This mapping error was corrected later on.

MINKA02.MAP, which features a cut-off table on the left side of the map, is unchanged from the demo.

Unused#

MINKA03.MAP

MINKA04.MAP

Two unused variants of the modern styled house, MINKA03.MAP and MINKA04.MAP. There's no wall separating the kitchen area from the rest of the map. MINKA04.MAP also features some weird block placement in the top right; the TV and N64 were probably supposed to be a single PC, like in MINKA03.MAP

Removed or Unknown Interiors#

There are more removed interiors.

The files VANISH.DMG and MAPEXT.H contain many IDs for maps that aren't present in the Spaceworld '97 builds.

Both VANISH.DMG and MAPEXT.H#

ID

Location

Notes

T04R0801

High-Tech

Unknown. Possibly for the additional house seen in the May 1998 backup map.

T09R0702

Blue Forest

An extra floor for the weirdly empty house in southwestern Blue Forest, which is known as T09R0701.

T10R0603
T10R0604

Stand

Two additional floors for the Rocket House in Stand, which uses IDs T10R0601 and T10R0602.

T10R0801

Stand

Unknown. Possibly for the Safari Zone's entrance?

VANISH.DMG Only#

ID

Location

Notes

T02R0202

Old City

This map is commented out in VANISH.DMG. The Pokémon League building in Old is known as T02R0201, which could mean that the School once occupied that slot, and this removed map was the original slot for the League building. This could be supported by the early Old Gym map featuring descending stairs, as well as the Trainer School building being missing in B-roll footage of Old City.

T03R0502

West

Ditto for West's Pokémon League building.
