It started out as simply a way to see how well rhythm games would work with the Wii Remote. Since then, the series has become very popular, not only because of its simple gameplay but also the soundtrack selection. It's to the point where it's not only popular in the US and Europe, but also has a couple of titles exclusively for the Japanese market.
