Regional Differences

To do:
Lots more:

  • Upload the opening videos.
  • Check the Korean versions. If something is present in the Korean version but not elsewhere, put it in its own section.
  • Removed Psychic Specters-exclusive YW Movie concept art from the international version.
  • Check the removed mission

This is a sub-page of Yo-kai Watch 2.

The localization of Yo-kai Watch 2 was a little more complicated, but not as nightmare-inducing as the next entries. Changes from Yo-kai Watch won't be covered here.

Several of these differences would be carried over to Yo-kai Watch 3.

Changes from the Japanese Version#

This section covers the changes applied to all international versions as a whole.

  • The Yo-kai Exercise No.1, (despite being dubbed into other languages) and Yo-kai Watch: The Movie videos in the Video App have been removed, possibly for licensing reasons.
  • When entering the baths inside the Blossom Heights Hot Springs, a graphic at the top left corner saying "For this production, a swimsuit will be worn" (演出上、水着を着用しております。) is shown for comedic effect, based off a running gag in Japanese media showing disclaimers onscreen. It was removed in localized versions because it was unnecessary. The graphic itself was also completely scrubbed from the files. Strangely, a similar gag in Yo-kai Watch Blasters was kept, specifically in the cutscene where Sproink slides on the soap, where a disclaimer appears onscreen, translated into all other languages.
  • Just like in Yo-kai Watch, the Japanese text on items was removed to make translation easier. The changes made for the first release were kept.

Cutscene Differences#

To do:
Was this patched in a later Japanese version of BS/FS?

  • In the original Japanese release of Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls, all of the in-game cutscenes were pre-rendered for the Video App, even though the cutscenes that happen during the storyline play in-game. The quirk was fixed for the Japanese release of Psychic Specters, and all international versions of the game.
  • The Jibanyan Summoning cutscene has graphical subtitles for the summoning chant lyrics on the top screen in the Japanese version, which would be removed in the international versions just like in the Summoning App.

Fleshy Souls/Bony Spirits Ending Theme#

In the international release of the games, Don-Don-Dooby-Zoo-Bah! uses the full version from the anime series instead of the new arrangement specifically made for the games. This is likely due to the aforementioned version's licensing issues.

Psychic Specters Ending Theme#

To do:
Get a direct video rip of don-don-dooby zoo bah with Psychic Specters visuals.

The Japanese text visuals for the ending theme Kuwagata to Kabutomushi were completely removed in the Korean version. It would carry onto the ending of American/European/Australian versions.

Opening Themes#

The opening was changed from Hatsukoitoge de Gera Gera Po, Matsuribayashi de Gera Gera Po and Gerappo Dance Train to three different remixes of Yo-kai Watch feat. Swampy Marsh, whilst keeping most of the visuals of the Japanese openings.

Psychic Specters Ending Theme#

To do:
Get a direct video rip of don-don-dooby zoo bah with Psychic Specters visuals.

The ending for Psychic Specters, Kuwagata to Kabutomushi was removed in the American, European and Australian versions, reusing Don-Don-Dooby-Zoo-Bah! from Bony Spirits and Fleshy Souls instead. This is likely due to the song not being dubbed, as it was only featured instrumentally in Yo-kai Watch: The Movie.

Additionally, the Korean version's ending visuals were replaced with textless versions, like in the international versions.

Miscellaneous Changes#

  • The Gera Gera Po Song, which was available to purchase in the Music Application is no longer available. This is likely due to licensing issues, despite the song already being dubbed into multiple languages.
  • QR Code Support for Hasbro-manufactured Yo-kai Medals from the previous game have been added, giving out the same rewards. Hasbro Medals which were released as part of the very short-lived Yo-Motion set have the same QR Codes as their Bandai counterparts.
  • The graphic that appears at the top left corner in the "Travelin' Komasan" sidequest has a different textual style, to match the anime's English dub title card of "Komasan in the City".

  • The station names on the Springdale Railway map slightly tilted around 45 degrees, so it would be easier to localize for western typefaces.
