Strider (Genesis)

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

Developed by Sega, the Genesis port of Strider is easily considered the best port of the arcade original, for being a 8 Mbit game.

Regional Differences#

Japan

International

The Japanese version uses the standard Sega logo seen in the majority of Sega developed Genesis titles. The international version instead uses a more unique logo (which had previously been seen in all versions of Castle of Illusion), also giving it a TM symbol.

Japan

International

Aside from the logo and copyright changes, "PUSH START BUTTON" was reworded to "PRESS START BUTTON" and no longer uses a unique font.

Voice Clips#

In the Japanese version, Hiryu makes a "HA!" sound when he swings his sword. The sample was removed from the international version, as had been done for the arcade game's localization.

The phrase "All sons of old gods, die!" for when you encounter the final boss, which was used in all versions of the arcade original, was also removed in the international versions.

Continue?#

The International versions allow you to continue (up to three times) by default. The Japanese version by default doesn't. In order to allow continues in the Japanese version, enter A, C, B, C, A, Start during the intro (where Grandmaster Meio laughs). If entered correctly, after getting a Game Over now the player will be able to continue (up to three times, obviously).
