This page details one or more prototype versions of Strider (NES).

This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion. |
A prototype of an unreleased Japanese Famicom version of Strider. The game was only released for the NES in North America.
Intro Sequence Text Differences#
There are a number of differences between the proto and final. Other than incorrect palettes, and glitchy tiling, the proto features additional text, making the intro sequence more cinematic. A rough translation of the original Japanese text is provided below.

Graphical Differences#
Title Screen#
The logo in the prototype is still in Japanese, and has been moved up a bit, possibly to make room for the additional copyright information for Capcom USA and NOA.

The text was changed from red/pink to white, and "PASS WORD" was fixed to "PASSWORD".
The font was also changed, possibly for readability. The font in the prototype had additional stylistic lines that make it look more "futuristic".
Additionally, moving the Cypher cursor on the title screen makes a sort of "rattling" metallic sound, while the final uses an "explosion" sound:

Sheena's face and hair look slightly more "angry". The highlights on her gun were also removed.
Kain's artwork was completely untouched.
Blue Dragon Scene 01#

All Blue Dragon scenes in the proto use the upper screen for portraits, and the lower screen for dialogue. The final swaps them, which provides more room for text.

Additionally, some dialogue is written in tategaki style, where text is read from right to left, top to bottom. This distinguishes Hiryu's dialogue from other characters, and adds a distinctive "manga-like" quality.
The English translation of the dialogue in this scene in the final is fairly literal, with few differences from the proto.
