Unused Audio#

Hoo boy, this mission has so much unused audio. Practically every aspect of this mission was changed during development. So many cut enemy types, a different station design, different mission structure - there's a LOT to cover here. 80% of this level's audio is unused.

There's lines for each character who pilots a fighter saying the "troop transport" lines except they call them "MTT's". This stands for Mobile Troop Transport. The lines were re-done for the final release.

If you ever thought this mission was too hand-holdey, then just be glad they toned it down by a lot, because it was originally going to be so much more annoying with everyone constantly reminding you about everything!

Every mission has a set or two of voice lines that seem to be earlier takes of lines said during the intro and outro cutscene of each mission, the audio for those normally being one track containing music and voice lines. Strangely, te player character's voice lines are absent from all examples of these.

The placeholder outro theory is supported by these two lines which did make it into the outro but as part of one long audio track with music and everyone talking.

A bunch of alternate takes for various circumstances.

These are lines from a cut conversation between Nym and Kole near the start of the mission.

This line, along with others, shows that Kole would pick up Orsai and his men in the main hangar rather than the aft hangar. He would also give ETA updates.

These lines show that the station defenses were much different.

Shield and hull strength updates for the Liberator. This is the first of several constant update chains that were cut, probably due to them being too annoying.

A few friendly fire remarks from the Liberator.

This conversation is a remnant of a cut enemy type - Suicide Droids. They would ram ships and explode on impact, and destroying their control ship - a TF Superfreighter - would make them stop spawning and make the existing ones self-destruct. These were cut from the game because of the September 11th terrorist attack which happened six months before release. The handling file for them still exists and can be loaded onto other enemies, and the TF Superfreighter was turned into the Armed Freighter for use in various missions, including this one.

These lines are for the landing sequence in the main hangar, and alternate escape sequence dialogue.

Apparently the station was going to have Tractor Beam Towers that would lock ships in place. This wasn't completely cut as the next mission uses them.

Apparently this mission once had an alternate ending where Orsai and his men couldn't get out and had to use escape pods.

Reactions from Kole and Reti when destroying MTTs.

Just like in The Informant, this mission had an entire failure sequence cut if a friendly target - this time the Liberator - was destroyed. In the final release you just fail the mission. This is the first time where unused voice lines are spoken noticeably quieter compared to used lines.

This was going to be said by Adi when the Liberator escapes, implying that Adi wasn't going to be in the next mission.
