Demos 1-4

This is a sub-page of Sonic Robo Blast 2/Archived Versions.

To do:
EVERYTHING. This page only contains brief descriptions of each Demo release, with very sparse details.

SRB2 Demo 1#

Demo 1 is the first demo of SRB2, made after the Halloween and Christmas tests.

It was released in November 2000. It only contained 1 level; a very incomplete version of Greenflower Act 1, which was incompletable despite having a signpost, as there was no Exit Sector. Tails was removed in this version.

SRB2 Demo 2#

Demo 2 is the second demo of SRB2, which was released on March 5, 2001. It contained 4 levels (Greenflower Zone and the first act of Techno Hill Zone, albeit unfinished).

It also contained the first ever map of Match mode, which was later called Meadow Match Zone. Because it was the first version with this game mode working properly, Tails was re-added here with more complete sprites, and a placeholder version of Knuckles was added too. This version also added the title screen that was used until the release of version 2.2, where it was redesigned to the current iteration.

SRB2 Demo 3#

This is the third demo of SRB2, released on 23 June, 2001. The biggest additions are the Tag and Race game modes, with the first appearance of Zero Ring Zone, as well as Tag Valley Zone, Techno Isle Zone, and an unnamed map that was removed by the next version.

Oddly enough, in this version only, there were three new characters that never appeared again:

  • Chao - a character made by the creator of Sonic Fangames HQ (a WAD for Christmas 0.96 also exists for this character.)
  • Cinossu - a Sonic recolor
  • Mega Man.

SRB2 Demo 4-4.35#

Demo 4 is the fourth demo of SRB2, released on December 25th, 2001. It would later be patched several times, culminating in April 2002 with Demo 4.35. It introduced several new elements of the game, most notably more unlockables and secret content, among them being Special Stages, the first appearance of Castle Eggman Zone, and date-activated secrets.

Capture the Flag mode was also introduced in this demo. In Demo 4.1, Knuckles would be given temporary sprites based on a 3D model, which would later be referred to as "Ugly Knux". Demo 4.32 would remove the title screen temporarily, replacing it with a placeholder Beta Test indicator, which was kept until SRB2 Tournament 2k3.
