Skull Island: Rise of Kong is a hack-and-slash (very loosely) based on the famous fictional ape that's notable for being one of the worst games of 2023, if not the worst (yes, even worse than The Lord of the Rings: Gollum). With sluggish, repetitive gameplay, hideous graphics, and the game running at a nearly single-digit framerate at all times, you could almost mistake it for a low-effort Unity asset flip at first glance. Given that the developers were not only very inexperienced but given only one year to work on the entire project, it's no wonder why it turned out the way it did.

Did we mention the publisher was the same one that gave us Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing 20 years earlier?

To do:
This game is on Unreal Engine 5, which means it needs a mapping file for models and stuff to be ripped properly. There's a whole lot of models, textures, and maps left over in the game files.

  • The PC version received an update that changed the title screen and added a player marker to the map.

Version Differences#

  • The audio quality for the voiceovers in the cutscenes for the Xbox One and Series X/S version is much lower quality than the other versions.

Project Name#

The game's internal project name is "Monke". Yes, really.
