This is a sub-page of SOS (SNES).
A few changes were made between the Japanese and American releases, ranging to fulfill Nintendo of America's acceptable content guidelines, to name display, important bug fixes and balancing the point evaluation of the people the player chose to save in their playthrough. All mentions of alcoholic beverages and tobacco were replaced with the word "Soda". Same with how "Pastor" and "Minister" was changed to "Mr. Gardner". Context related to religion is not translated. Text tones such as dots indicating silence or question marks were partially axed when they translated the game.

Characters#
Capris Wisher - When selecting the architect's boarding pass, his name and signature will be displayed as Caplice Wisher. The international version changes this to Capris Wisher.

Redwin Gardner - His occupation is a "Minister" in the Japanese version. The American release changes it to "Counselor". Passengers who call Redwin "Pastor" refers to him as "Mr. Gardner". His prologue is slightly altered for him to become seasick to remove mentions and implications of drinking.

Luke Haines - While there's no differences within the graphic itself, the subtitles states Luke to be 21 years of age when the timeline of the disaster happens a month before his 21st birthday. Taking off subtitles fixed the inconsistency.

Passengers
- There's bug in the English version where — no matter which character you pick — Luke Heinz will always show up as a survivor. This causes hilarity where his name can appear twice.
(Source: Vehek)
- Katherine Meibrus' deceased no-name brother changed to a deceased husband by the name of Sean.
- Anthony Pains and Wins Laney Reiton cannot be saved due to censorship regarding alcoholism.
- Prologue only. Francoise Maxwell incorrectly refers to Mary Maxwell as a boy in the western version.
- Jeffrey is unable to save Cooper, Pamela and Stacy Smith due to a bug in the Japanese version.
- In the Japanese version of Capris Wisher's route, Jimmy Akers is looking for his crew unit. The USA version changes this to finding a first aid kit for his friends.
- The Japanese version contains a critical bug in the control room where talking to the dead crewman on the righthand side causes the game to go straight to the shipwreck ending.
- Right under the bar, a man indulging in alcohol was removed from the overseas version. A remnant of his chunk message is still present in the game.

As the overseas increased the line of messages from 2 to 4, certain texts related to rescue events are erroneously spoken by the protagonist instead of the passenger or some characters missing their lines in the middle of a conversation. There are no changes to the order of talking motion and who is assigned to speak, likely making this an oversight from Vic Tokai.

Some lines were inserted into dead NPCs, such as the deceased Captain Phillips having speaking lines when examined by Luke Haines.

Events#
A bar is located next to a fire in a left wall on the middle deck; two drunks will follow you if you are playing as Jeffrey, but only one will follow you otherwise. The American version locks the entrance door. It is possible to access the bar by finding offset 0x8825f and change 0x16 to 0x10 (Cheat code simplificationː 7f918a10). The area is initially devoid of people as there is no event set. In order to populate the bar and talk to Anthony Pains and Wins Laney Reiton you have to change the following value to the memory addressː

In the prologue, the NPCs inside the bar contain fully translated chunk messages not seen in normal gameplay. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the drunkard's rescue event as they're all emptied out. Whether the absent text is still in the game or not remains undiscovered.
(Wayler & lightbulbsun: atariage)
Watch on YouTubeA fully translated event where a pair of siblings can briefly reunite with their dead mother was omitted from the US version.
In order to access this part, you must rescue Harry and Stella Adams in the Redwin Gardner route. Before entering the Hall, apply the cheat code 80B86F:2E. The children have to be stationed near their mother for the event to start.
Tiles#
The middle deck, the bottom deck and the casino room all had statues that were removed from the international version due to featuring artistic nudity.
