Nintendogs + Cats is the sequel to Nintendogs and one of the launch titles for the Nintendo 3DS. This sequel adds fur to the dogs, improved Bark Mode StreetPass functionality, a revamped walking feature, Miis, 3D effects, and......cats.
Unused Areas#
Unused Room#
A texture-less, unused test room for your home. It seems to be shaped like the Designer Condo from its predecessor.
Unused Geometry#
Inside various areas, there is some geometry that cannot be seen out of bounds.
BARC Shop#
Inside the shop during a walk, there is a rectangle object can be seen on the corners. It was likely left there for testing.
Interior Decorator#

At the Interior Decorator, a fully-modelled room along with a window located left to the counter can be seen, which is used for displaying the purchasable furniture. Strangely, the shelves behind the counter extend to the right side of the area.
Café#
The outdoor view of the Café extends all the way to the other side. What appears to be an unused exit can be found behind where the girl would usually be.
Unused Items#
Zapper/Gun#
This gun is one of the objects in the folder item, but, alas, it's unused. This item has an unused sprite, as well.
Unused Accessories#
During the game's first few months, downloadable content were distributed in the form of Miis exclusively in Japan and North America. Japan got all of the AR Game-exclusive accessories while North America only got Luigi's Hat.
However, those items can be obtained if one has a Nintendo 3DS with the downloadable content so it could be StreetPassed with the other-region 3DS, but it's very unlikely. Some of the items even have rarely-seen European-English descriptions.
Samus' Headgear#
Guess what? It's unobtainable outside of Japanese-exclusive DLC. Whoopie.
Unused Toys#
|
|
This needs some investigation. |
Trophy#
Within the "element" folder, there are all toys, or items, for the dog/cat, but some objects are not available as items, as either another item is used instead or cannot be used as a plaything in general. For example, the Trophy.
Biscuit Bags#
Other objects that are not obtainable are Biscuit bags. The food is included at the "item" folder, too.

Piano#
The piano is in this folder, too.
Shampoo#
Oh yeah, this too.
Lure#
Three guesses as to where it's obtainable.
Present#
Used only during walks.
Tea and Cake#
Appears to be a toy version of the object used when buying food in the cafe.
Function Symbols#
Download Nintendogs + Cats Symbol Maps File: NintendogsCats Symbol Maps.zip (229 KB) (info) |
Found in the Korean and Taiwanese builds of the game, a symbol map for the game's executable exists in the directory debug in the RomFS. It's named memmap.txt.
Regional Differences#
Naming Your Puppy#
The American and European voice clips are different when you are given examples of naming your pet.
