This page details pre-release information and/or media for Nintendogs + Cats.
Not much is known about the development of Nintendogs + Cats, but while the general prerelease material and development is generally on track, there's still a fair amount of differences to be found.
Development Timeline#
2010
- Early 2010 - Nintendogs + Cats begins development as the same time as Mario Kart 7.
- Jun. 4 - The internal date of the E3 2010 screenshots.
- Jun. 14-17 - E3 2010 is held, where attendants could play a demo of the game.
- Sep. 29 - The Nintendo Conference 2010 was held in Japan.
2011
- Feb. 26 - Nintendogs + Cats is released in Japan.
- Mar. 25 - Nintendogs + Cats is released in Europe.
- Mar. 27 - Nintendogs + Cats is released in North America.
Early Development (2010)#
Nintendogs + Cats began development in early 2010, where a majority of the Nintendo EAD Group 1 team worked on the game, along with Mario Kart 7 to a lesser extent. This is because they wanted to release the former title first.
The team was able to take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS' hardware by creating much more detailed dogs and cats.

An early version of the reworked walk sequence.
- The houses and overall landscape is borrowed from Nintendogs, down to using almost the exact same models.
- The angle was 3/4 view as opposed to being third-person view at all times.

The early reworked Disc Competition.
- The banners did not have unique logos then, it was just the Nintendo logo.
E3 2010 Demo#
A playable demo of Nintendogs + Cats was playable at E3 2010. All the player could do was interact with one of three puppies, with a limited amount of toys. Cats weren't present as of that build.
Said demo would be dumped to the public in 2025.
