Mappy (Arcade)

Mappy is a game of cat and mouse, with a twist! Mappy must enter various mansions owned by Goro and his gang of Meowkies to recover the stolen goods scattered about.

The game used to see popularity back in the 80s (mostly in Japan), but these days it's known for occasionally being shoved into various Namco compilations and re-releases (or, famously, that one web series).

Regional Differences#

Japan

US

In Japan, the big red cat is named Nyamco, a combination of the company's namesake and the Japanese word "Nyanko". Nyamco's name was eventually changed to Goro in the US release. The names of the smaller pink cats were changed from Mewkies to Meowky (known as "Meowkies" in other media).

Despite this, some later iterations of Mappy (such as the version featured in Namco Classic Collection Vol. 1 or the PlayStation port featured in Namco Museum Vol. 2), as well as some later installments in the franchise, use the Japanese names for the characters regardless of region.
