Kurohyou: Ryu ga Gotoku Shinsho is the first-ever title of the Yakuza series on the PSP, and bears very little similarity to the mainline series games, sporting a unique take on the beat 'em up combat system (courtesy of Def Jam: Fight for NY), a very 2D Kamurocho and a completely different protagonist.

Sub-Page#

Unused Models#

Kurohyou splits models into 3 categories: very low-quality models used in the overworld, models used in combat and high-quality 3D models with more detail used in the Cabaret Club minigame.

Tatsuya Ukyo#

Kurohyou_Tatsuya_silver_tracksuit.png

The protagonist of this game. Throughout Kurohyou he only wears a black-and-gold tracksuit (and a pair of black boxing shorts in certain story events), and there is no option to change outfits at all. However, this unused model of him wearing a baggy silver tracksuit exists in the files. It is unknown how it would have been obtained, and is presumed to be a leftover test asset.

Shun Akiyama#

Kurohyou_Shun_Akiyama_unused_model.png

One of the 4 protagonists of Yakuza 4. He appears occasionally in the ramen-making minigame as a low-quality overworld model, but this high-quality combat model of his is never used anywhere in the game. It is unknown what its purpose is.

Can be found in battlesub.cpk/KHIM013_01_MDL.

Unused Weapons#

Kurohyou_cut_weapons.png

The weapons cut from this game are a pistol, a minigun, a combat knife and knuckledusters. The first 3 exist only as texture files, indicating they were cut very early in development. The knuckledusters, however, are fully modeled.

Unused Moves#

This page or section needs more videos.
There's a whole lotta words or pictures here, but not enough videos. Please fix this.
Specifically: Record footage of the 26th punch deathblow

Reiji Shinjo's back quickstep attack#

The final boss Reiji Shinjo has his own back quickstep attack that ended up being unused in the final game but remained in the files. It looks exactly like his forward punch.

22nd kick deathblow#

There are 21 punch and kick deathblows each in Kurohyou, but a secret 22nd kick deathblow (vanish_k_021, deathblow order starts with 0) exists the files. However, it is simply the punch deathblow Burning Straight assigned a kick command instead. This was done specifically so the boss Tetsuji Shima could have another punch deathblow instead of a kick deathblow, since actually having 2 punch deathblows is not possible. (In lore, Shima is an orthodox boxer who never kicks.)

Unused and Leftover Animations#

Unused street fight intros#

Unused intros for regular street fights.

Unused death animations#

Unused animations for losing a fight.

Unused deathblow charge animation#

An unused deathblow charge animation. Looks extremely similar to Reiji's boss battle intro; may have been used by him at some point.

Leftover Def Jam: Fight for NY wallbound animations#

Kurohyou-UnusedWallboundBack.gif Kurohyou-UnusedWallboundFront.gif Animations from Def Jam: FFNY for when a character in said game gets thrown into a wall after already having been thrown into the same wall prior. They lie leftover in MOTION_KIHON.

Unknown animation#

This was presumed to be a death animation, but being found in a different folder to the death animations ruled out that possibility. Its purpose is completely unknown.

Unused Textures#

Inside the files for the playermenu backgrounds is an ingame screenshot of the Millennium Tower from Yakuza 3 used as a temporary texture.
