Unused Textures

This is a sub-page of Killing Floor.

To do:
extract individual icons for PReset icons and KFO developer icons.

Achievements#

There are currently 3 unused achievements in the game's HUD texture files. There are no coding to determine what these achievements were named nor what criteria is need for any of them.

Thrills Chills#

One features a key, and the other a festive themed safe. These two are the last achievements textures, with the previous ones (280 - 284) all tied to the final released map. Its safe to assume these were planned for Trills and chills. Its possible that there could have been an objective mode map as its was the norm to always include an objective map with every major update. It also could have been possible that there was a mini quest in the map, similar to how Aperture has the sealed vault which awards the Golden Potato achievement.

Steamland#

This achievement was removed from the games files. The image depicts a Pukey plush vomiting blood. It looks similar to achievement 217 which also show a Pukey plush head. This unused achievement however is shown in the Pier of Pain trailer which suggest it was cut very late in the update's development cycle. Its texture file name was named Achievement_218 which is now used by the achievement Arcade Gamer which was originally 219.

DLC#

Several textures are left over for unused DLC. NEW versions for Make-Shift & the first 4 Golden Weapons are no longer in the game files.

Makeshift Weapon Pack#

Its seem originally TWI planned on selling the Vlad the Impaler in a DLC pack. It's unknown what other weapons would be in this pack but the only other makeshift weapon that arrived with the Nailgun during Hillbilly Horror was the Buzzsaw Bow which is part of the IJC weapon pack. It's possible that this was the prototype version of the Community Weapon pack as the Tommy Gun wasn't planned on being a DLC weapon at first.

Golden Weapon pack#

Released during the Twisted Christmas in Space update, it seems TWI may have originally planned on selling each golden weapon individually.

Golden Weapon pack 2#

With the 2nd Golden pack released during the Summer Sideshow: Pier of Pain update, the single golden weapon DLC idea still persisted. Luckily the idea was finally dropped as none of the Camo or Neon weapons have single DLC textures.

Colored Dummy Portrait#

In the files of the Toy Master expansion, you can find a colored version of the Dummy's portrait, the final version uses a red portrait. Colored Dummy Portrait

Developer Textures#

While there aren't many and most maps were just made without dev textures, you can find some of them laying around the files and in specific maps. The actors in Killing Floor all mostly use default Unreal Engine icons, but some pickups and all of the Objective mode icons are custom made.

DJ Scully Unused Combiner#

Due to an oversight in the code, DJ Scully uses only a diffuse texture, when in the files there is a combiner that makes his goggles and kneepads have a slight shine to them. DJ Scully with his unused combiner.

Early Character Textures#

You can find work in progress versions of multiple characters textures leftover in the files.

Early Objective Mode UI Textures#

There are a few early looking Objective Mode UI textures that go unused in the KFStoryGame_Tex texture package.

Leftover Level Previews#

A lot of maps have level previews from other maps in their myLevel package. This implies that Tripwire built new maps off old map files commonly.

"PReset" Perk Icons#

There exists in "KillingFloor2Hud" texture package a group of perk icons that go completely unused. They look almost like redesigned perk icons and some of the Killing Floor 2 perk icons would end up looking similar. The file name could imply a prestige system similar to Call of Duty, or even possibly a whole perk system reset update that changed the mechanics as well as their icons.

Rachel Clamely 2k Texture#

An unused double-resolution version of Rachel Clamely's texture can be found in the files. 2k Rachel Clamely texture on the model.

Special Effects#

In the files you can find some textures for cut special effects.

Toy Master Doll Materials#

There are some unused versions of the dolls textures in Toy Master.

In the files you can find a texture package called CellExample, that features an example template for a cel-shaded look. This was seemingly going to be used for the Puppets in Toymaster. Here is what it looks like unmodified. The Cel-Shaded material on a KF Soldier.

UI Textures#

Xmas Scrake Opacity#

You can find an unused texture meant for masking opacity on the Xmas Scrake, or Jack Frost, this would of made him transparent and more like actual ice. This was likely scrapped due to Unreal Engine 2 not handling transparency that well on complex models.
