Revisional Differences

This is a sub-page of Killing Floor.

To do:
Still have a lot of stuff to document:

  • Add old animations.
  • Add "old firing sounds".
  • old flashlight appearance.
  • add map differences
  • add other small changes from launch.

Killing Floor has had a lot of big and small differences across the game since it first came out in 2009. Here are differences between v1000 (launch day copy) and v1065 (current) of KF1.

User Interface#

Early UI#

Killing Floor used to contain an entirely different looking UI. It all had the red and black look of the HUD. The HUD is really the only remnant of this era, and in general, the UI was a lot closer looking to the mod.

  • The main menu had a red overlay over the Specimen in the back, no film grain overlay, lack of DLC buttons and the entire DLC menu.
  • The Demolitionist perk is missing and the maximum perk level was Level 5.
  • Achievement icons were colored. Current icons are mainly green backgrounds with monochrome white pictures.
  • The settings are pretty much the same, but missing the Kill Counter option in HUD settings. The menu's background is a different picture.
  • The server browser had a different background and lack of Hell on Earth difficulty filter, as that difficulty wasn't added yet.
  • The solo/host game menu had a different background and lacked the game mode selection menu, as Objective Mode wasn't present on release.
  • The lobby screen lacks ads.
  • Some HUD text uses a different font, and is slightly bigger and bolder.
  • The Trader menu is completely different.

Original achievements designs#

During Twisted Christmas in Space (Winter 2012), Moonbase, like most seasonal events, had its achievements stylized to fit it's map's theming. With the release of Hillbilly Horror Fright Yard (Halloween 2013), all previous achievements were redesigned in the same style.

Previous Character DLC Spotlight#

The menu originally would replace the previous artwork with the most current character pack DLC. Ash Harding was the final character pack before transitioning to the box designs the game uses now.

Previous Lobby Videos#

Killing Floor has had various ads advertising DLC packs and other Tripwire products for most of its life, which played in the lobby screen. There have been a lot over the years and they were removed from the game after they were done being shown.

Maps#

Biotics Lab#

Originally at the back of the starting floor, the room with the two stairs heading down, there was a part of the ceiling's steel grating that fell next to some barrels. This made a ramp and allow players to enter this upper area. In this small area are two vent spawns for Crawlers and Stalkers. The whole area did not have flooring however, a player can escape by heading to the out areas and jump down if they get overwhelmed. Despite no longer having access to this area (they just removed the ramp), the ceiling room is still there.

Abusement Park (pre-Hellride)#

When Hellride was introduced during Summer Sideshow 2012, Abusement Park received a design update where it added 2 interactable attractions and covering up some boring spots. Though Abusement Park didn't actually get update during the first release of the Summer Sideshow Hellride event as the devs had to push back their revamped map due to some bugs. Abusement Park would finally be updated 4 days later.

  • The Freak Circus entrance signage was a large noticeable change. It use to be a Fleshpound head in the middle with two crawler heads to its side. These simply reused the decapitated head models but size them up. Due to this, the heads looked very blurry, jagged and they still had their gore mesh visible.
  • Where now stands the interactive dancing Amazing Mechanical Man, was just empty space.
  • As for the area where Hellride's entrance and the Pop-the-Clot booth reside, it was just a generic tent in the middle. Behind the tint was a rocky wall, and to the left of it was more wall.

Original Firing SFX#

In the current build of Killing Floor, firing sounds are all stereo. At launch however they used the same mono firing sound that 3rd person used. In an update soon after launch these all got replaced in 1st person by stereo sounds.

Lever Action Rifle#

Here are the 3rd person Lever Action Rifle sounds that were originally also the 1st person sounds.
