Unused Music#

Smooth Jazz#

In the music trigger for KF-Aperture, the trader rounds call for a music file named Smoothjazz.ogg. However this file was never actually shipped with the game, possibly due to licensing. Because the game is still looking for an unexisting song file, if a player makes a new ogg or copies and renames it to smoothjazz.ogg, Aperture will now play that one song during its trader waves. For reference, here is the Smooth Jazz bit in Portal 2 and the actual full song. Watch on YouTubeWatch on YouTube

Transit's Music#

KF-Transit launched with music missing on quite a few waves. According to zYnthetic (the composer) they have been accidentally left out, and he had tried to get the music put back into the game but Tripwire never did. He later released these on his album "ERA" and made a mod to restore the music.

KFSIN7#

In KF-MountainPass, the game calls for a combat song named KFSIN7.ogg which of course, does not exist. This song was simply zYnthethic's Hunger which does come with the game but the map maker accidently left the KFMod version . This was an oversight by the map maker that TWI never fixed. Just like Smooth Jazz, if a KFSIN7.ogg file were to be added to the game's music folder, Mountain Pass will play that song during its zed rounds, and only thing song.

Take That (1st version)#

There is, what may be, an earlier version for the song "Take That" from Siren's Blech. The version the map plays is KF_6_TakeThat2.ogg. There isn't much of a difference, just the volume lowered a bit and ends with a quick fade, which is still present in the released version but is missing the hi-hats which help loop the song to the beginning.

Eastern Front#

If, for some reason, a player does not have a menu song file, and if you change the in-game volume, another song will play as fallback. The game will play RO_Eastern_Front.ogg if its in the music folder. This is because killing floor's code falls back to Red Orchestra coding, which looks for its menu song. Despite the song being called "Eastern Front", it is actually Matthew S Burns's Operation Barbarossa

Male Voice Pack 3#

There is an entire voice pack that goes unused. It is all voiced by the games main composer and sound designer zYnthetic. It has a surprisingly large amount of voice lines, as it was only made to test stuff according to zYnthetic. A developer accidentally included it in one of the game's updates and the community got their hands on it. This voice pack was removed the day after.

There are mods on the Steam Workshop available to restore this voice pack. Watch on YouTube

Unused Player Voice Lines#

Some unused and test lines are left over in the male 1 and male 2 voice packs. There is also an extra crawler line that goes unused in the female voice pack. These lines consist of temp lines, higher quality uncompressed takes, and entirely unused normal voice lines. It seems as if the 2nd male voice package was made by copying the first, and this might of happened before they compressed audio, so any filed that weren't replaced in Male Voice 2 stayed higher quality.

Unused Trader Lines#

You can find a group of welcoming lines from the trader that don't seem to ever happen in the game, there does seem to be code for it in KFShopVolume class but it may be broken as it never happens in the game.

Unused Zed Sounds#

There is also some unused Zed sounds hiding in the files. You can find a completely unused soundgroup for "Blade Falling", presumably you could originally gib the blade arm off and these would be impact sounds. the Patriarch has a few unused lines as well and you can also find 4 re-recorded KF Mod lines in a style much more similar to the retail Patriarch.

Objective Mode Dialogue#

There are a decent amount of dialogues that go unused in the Objective Mode maps, majority which seem to be variations or different takes, Although some seem to reference cut objectives.

Ringmaster Lockheart#

A lot of his unused lines seem to come from the escort sequence.

Martel Halliday#

Most seem like dialogue that was meant to play for objectives that don't have any in the final map. There is also a few variation lines that weren't used. The 500 voice lines seem to be from a cut section where you actually got onto his boat, with it sounding like a different speaker system and him saying "Exit by water, it's the only way." He even sounds more like an ally to the player instead of the antagonist he is in the final map in these lines.
