GuitarFreaks 6thMIX & drummania 5thMIX were the first games in their respective series with the Nonstop mode, where the player can play courses of four songs each, predetermined or not. It was also the last game to feature the Multisession GDK system, introduced one release prior.

Songlist Slots#

On GAME.DAT in the GuitarFreaks data, the game's main resource repository, a songlist icon for the song MOVE OVER can be found, although the song itself is not present.

THE POWER OF LOVE - QXMJFSFY.DAT
Many unused sprites in this sheet, which include buildings and a horse, hint that the background animations for this song were originally going to be much more diverse. The palette data is guessed.

Song Selection Screen#

A title graphic for a song with ID 511 can be found in GAME.DAT in the GuitarFreaks data. As there's no text/data match to this ID in the game, it is unknown what this song could have been.

In the drummania data, there is also an empty slot among the icons used for the difficulties.

Session Play Total Results#

Early, seemingly placeholder graphics for the Session Play Total Results screen can be found in GAME.DAT.

Dummy#

An ordinary dummy graphic, found near the Stage Cleared/Failed graphics in GAME.DAT.

Unused Music#

Folder DATA0/STATIC contains the game's system BGM. However, two tunes are not heard:

GF5dm4 Opening#

File OPENING.DAT is the opening theme for GuitarFreaks 5thMIX & drummania 4thMIX, a leftover from that game.

Game Over#

File OVER.DAT is a short tune that is not heard in-game. It is also a leftover from GuitarFreaks 5thMIX & drummania 4thMIX, and judging by its name, it was likely meant to be used in the Game Over screen, despite that, in both games, only the announcer can be heard.

Unused Text/Code#

Starting from offset 0x1AFB5C (GF)/0x1AD128 (dm) in GAME.DAT is a song text masterlist of some sorts (this masterlist is shared with both GuitarFreaks and drummania games.), whose text is displayed in the splash screen before the gameplay. In this masterlist, are listed several songs absent from this game. The songlist's code, whichs starts at 0x1ACAE4 (GF)/0x1AA0B0 (dm), references these same songs.

Regional Differences#

drummania 5thMIX was released in Asia under the name of PercussionFreaks 5thMIX. This version translated the game's UI, along with several song titles, into English. A Korean version, which was based on the Asia version, was also released, in which there are several more differences when compared to the original Japanese release. Regarding the game's songlist, only new differences will be entered in this section.

Songlist#

• The licensed songs Boyfriend, Ginga tetsudou 999, mottö, Natsuiro, Tentaikansoku and TRAIN-TRAIN, along with the original songs Kimi no tonari ni..., MISS YOU and Seiron, were changed to instrumental versions.
