Gradius (J2ME, BREW, 2002)

The arcade Gradius received a series of feature phone ports around 2002-2004, for J2ME phones in Japan (from the carrier J-Sky, in three episodes called Gradius A, B and C), for Nokia J2ME phones overseas, and for BREW phones overseas (dumped is an LG version from the US carrier Verizon). This article currently covers these versions, which are similar enough to each other down to the choice of shortening the name of the Double power-up to "DUB". Later versions, such as ones released on the J2ME in 2005 for Vodafone phones as well as for various models in China, have yet to be researched for unused stuff.

Unused Stage Data#

The J-Sky version of Gradius B has an unused copy of Stage 6 (the second stage of part B) under st2data.bin.bak as opposed to the final st2data.bin, dated about 5 minutes before the final version of the file.

This needs some investigation.

Unused Music#

The Nokia version seems to pre-load four tracks in Nokia OTA/OTT/RNG format, the other two of which (Stage 1 theme and Boss theme from the arcade original) are used in their entirety.

Coin is present, but doesn't seem to play at any point.

Only the first few seconds of Air Battle are used because the game restarts the track once in a while for some unknown reason, even though pretty much the whole thing is there.
