Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors. |
Gals Panic is the first entry of the "Qix: Erotic Edition" series, notorious (or infamous, depending on your point of view) for using real girls/models.
Insert I'm "name of the girl" here.
Version Differences#
Gals Panic has many variants, but in general there are two major versions of the game: the original version, and a new version which runs on the EXPRO-02 hardware. In MAME, these are considered as separate sets.
The old version has two distinct sets (excluding galspanica and galspanicc, which are basically carbon copies of the version listed below):
- galpanic - the original release. Known as unprotected in MAME.
- galpanicb - an alternate version which changes some of the girls' outfits (and even a girl entirely). Known as ULA protected in MAME.
The new version (the one that runs on EXPRO-02 hardware) has five distinct sets:
- galsnew - the version released in every region excluding Japan, USA, Korea, and Taiwan. Known as Export in MAME.
- galsnewj - the Japanese version, published by Taito. Aside from a new Japanese dub and the text being translated to Japanese, this is the first version where censorship has been made.
- galsnewt - the Taiwanese version. This version uses galsnew as a base and has the Japanese dub from galsnewj.
- galsnewk - the Korean version, published by Inter. Aside from a completely different title screen, a Korean dub, and the text translated to Korean, this version ramps up the censorship to an absurd level.
- galsnewu - the US version. Identical to galsnew, but with the additions of an (optional) filter that removes nudity and the option to control the marker using only the directional pad, like Super Qix.
Every new version's set seems to be based on the alternate ULA Protected set, as Marina (one of the models) uses the design of galpanicb.
Old Versions Differences#

The most notable difference between the original and alternate version is Marina's design. In the original version, her design is faithful as she appears in real life, while in the alternate version, for some bizzare reason, her design now features a different blonde girl. Also in the first picture, her dress was changed to a wedding dress and the background was changed.
Other Girls#
The other girls got simply a dress change in the alternate version.
