ESPN National Hockey Night (SNES)

ESPN National Hockey Night isn't the first hockey-based video game, and it won't be the last.

Unused Teams#

Four extra teams exist in the game's code. While all four are fully implemented and hidden behind button codes in the Genesis and Sega CD versions, there are no known codes for the SNES version and there are various signs of the teams being incomplete:

• All four teams appear to use the LA Kings' roster as a placeholder.
• Team Sony's home and away uniforms are monochrome orange and white, respectively, and the former is animated in-game.
• The Democrats and Republicans have ratings of 1 in every category, likely as placeholders.
• The Democrats and Republicans' names are swapped on the scoreboard that appears at faceoffs.

Enable Pro Action Replay code 7EE804xx (Home)/7EE806xx (Visitors), where xx is one of the below, to play as them:

1A: Team Sony
1B: Team ESPN
1C: Democrats
1D: Republicans

Developer / Filler Text#

Like Champions World Class Soccer and ESPN Speedworld, this includes some goofy filler text. Starts at 0x18D59A:

This is the way we pad the ROM, pad the ROM, pad the rom...
Boy, you sure are wasting lots o' bytes. Learn to be
more frugal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Still more space to pad? Why not add another sound or two.
Youd think that game programmers today would be more careful
about using all available ROM space, but I guess not. Four
score and seven years ago yatta yatta yatta. Who the heck is
looking at this anyway. This is a ROM, no one sees this, WHO
ARE YOU, WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? Quit snooping around and
play this great game.
