Duel is loosely based on the Steven Spielberg movie of the same name, and reuses Crazy Cars ' engine. It was also prominent French software publishers/distributors France Image Logiciel's final game, released shortly before their bankruptcy, as well as a very rare game on its own; efforts to preserve it, which had been ongoing since 2005, would not be concluded until 2023.
