This is a sub-page of Doom: The Dark Ages.
Compared to its predecessors, this game's files contain a lot of videos, a lot of which is pre-release footage of the game, the cutscenes tests and other stuff.
Upgrades#
The videos showcasing upgrades for weapons, which are located in video/progression/guns (Shield Saw video located in video/progression/shield). Some of them are take place in the background of sixth chapter, like in the footage of the press-release build released on March 31, 2025.
Shield Saw#
The unused upgrade for a Shield Saw is called Sentinel's Elbow.
Super Shotgun#
For the Super Shotgun, the unused upgrade is called Black Powder.
Cycler#
For the Cycler is several videos, showcasing the upgrades that called Duality, Cascade and Singlularity. The Cascade was appeared in the same footages released on March 31, 2025.
Pulverizer#
The unused upgrade for the Pulverizer is called Predator. As the video shows, it acts like the ravager's upgrade called Supplier: receives the ammo of this weapon from the killed demons. This upgrade was also in the same footage of the press-release build as the cycler's upgrade Cascade.
Ravager#
The unused upgrade for the Ravager is called All Cylinders. The most noticeable thing is that the skull glows yellow, like the skulls of the Pulverizer, rather than blue like in the final game.
Grenade Launcher#
The unused upgrade for a Grenade Launcher is called Sticky. Which is shown in the video as the grenades stick to the enemies. Which differs from the upgrades of the final game, where they are all associated with the release of cluster grenades upon direct hits on demons, from this tool of the destruction. What's interesting is that when fired, the weapon shoots grenades from Doom Eternal.
Tutorials#
Slayer#
Footage of a greyboxed test room where the player dazes a Pinky Rider in a variety of ways. The HUD is early, and the flail is an early, untextured model. Another video shows parrying the red light attack of the Vagary at the end of fourth chapter. There are none of these in the final version. Also, the creature itself is in normal armor and not in the champion's golden armor. There is also a video called Tut slayer shield bonce but it is actually just a placeholder video.
All of them located in video/tutorials/slayer.
AI Tests#
Videos showcasing AI tests can be found in video/tutorial/ai.
Armor#
The Battle Knight is depicted here with dark-green skin, instead of the final version's red skin. Interestingly, the player in this footage uses the Marauder's Super Shotgun and throwable Axe from Doom Eternal's Battlemode multiplayer as placeholders, suggesting that the playable Marauder was used as a base to prototype TDA's new mechanics.
Acolyte#
The Acolyte in the video has no textures, and has floating books like in the concept arts from the digital artbook, which are not present in the final game.
Serf Siege#
Footage of an on-foot battle against a Titan. (More precisely, with the armored variant, if you believe the title of the video, because the armored titan in the files is called Serf.) (In the final game, they're always fought with either turrets or the Atlan). On the background of the seventh Chapter. This demonstrates mechanics similar to the final boss battle in Doom Eternal by having to manually destroy individual body parts to render the beast vulnerable before targeting its head to finish it off. The Auto-Turret and Plasma Rifle use Ballista and Equipment Launcher models from the previous game as placeholders.
Atlan#
These videos located in video/tutorial/atlan. They show some of Atlan's mechanics, like parrying attacks, dashing, perfect timing dodge, the weapons, and two scrapped ones: Combo Extension and Hellswarm Missiles. In the video of showcasing dash mechanics and the super weapon, the Atlan is with unfinished textures, same as the cannon. The Titan also has red light parrying attack, like the Vagary.
Cutscenes#
Storyboards#
Storyboards of the first and fifth chapters can be found in video/binks/cinematic/temp/m1_intro and in m3b_holy_city_dragon. Both of use Doom Eternal's soundtrack as a placeholder. In the first storyboard, there is no dialogue, King Novik is absent, and Thira has a different overall design, like seen in the concept artwork from the digital artbook. Ironically, King Novik is present in the storyboard of the fifth chapter, and he flies away on a dragon to the city, although in the released game, as he himself says in fourth chapter, he will fly away with Valen on airships. The design of the dragons is different, closer to the European image of the dragon in folklore and pop culture. Novik also refers to the slayer's dragon Serrat by another name.
M4_cbts#
Some short tests of the opening cutscene of the sixth Chapter, which are located in video/binks/cinematic/temp/m4_siege.
M5_oohc and M5_Conjure#
Cutscene tests of the ending of the intro to eighth chapter, and the rune cutscene from the end of ninth chapter. Both of them can be found in video/binks/cinematic/temp/m5_forge.
M7_Lostspace#
Tests of the ending cutscene of thirteenth chapter, located in video/binks/cinematic/temp/m7_armada.
Doom Eternal Leftovers#
BFG Tutorial#
There is also one leftover from Doom Eternal hidden in the game files, and this is a tutorial on the BFG that appears after its obtain in the seventh level.Located in video/
