Dialogue#
Unused Announcer#
An unusual sounding Dr. Neo Cortex announcing the title and menus of the game. As this game doesn't use the same sort of introduction as Crash 2 and 3, the title line went unused. This line remained in the files of the European version, even being reduced in quality like the used lines, while the rest were removed to save disc space.

Unused Adventure Voice Lines#
Aku Aku or Uka Uka were to tell the player about issues related to the controller and memory cards during Adventure mode, but the lines went unused in the final game. The lines regarding the memory card were likely intended to be used with the Load-Save Screen, but these, and the controller warning, are displayed by text instead.

Early Ripper Roo Dialogue#
At some point during development, Ripper Roo was going to speak English, but this was scrapped in favor of crazed laughter clips the same as he uses in Crash 1 and Crash 2, along with subtitles translating his laughter. These lines also reveal that Ripper Roo was going to mention Nitros Oxide by name, just as the other bosses do. These mentions are not in the final subtitles, but are in his unused extended subtitles. His opening line also lacks the "Are" at the start in his used subtitles.

Unused Nitros Oxide Dialogue#
A cutscene was planned where Nitros Oxide taunts the player into bringing 16 Trophies to his spaceship, getting far enough for the dialogue to be recorded in all seven languages. Unused voice lines for two other cutscenes were found in the September 3rd, 1999 prototype, suggesting that this cutscene was originally going to play after defeating Ripper Roo, and the other two would play after defeating Papu Papu and Komodo Joe. In the final game, Oxide only taunts the player after defeating Pinstripe.
Given what Oxide says here, and with the removal of the other two cutscenes, this cutscene would have logically taken place at the half way point once Papu Papu was defeated. The cutscene was likely scrapped due to time constraints with there needing to be a unique head and mouth animation made for Oxide in all seven languages.

Think you can save your planet? Believe me, it's doomed. No one has ever beaten Oxide in a race, ever! Still, you savages amuse me, so a fair chance is in order. Bring 16 trophies to my spaceship, proving you are the world champion. Then will we race for the fate of your planet. |

Espères sauver ta planète ? Elle est condamnée, crois-moi. Personne n'a jamais pu battre Oxide, personne !

Unused Dr. N. Tropy Dialogue#
Dr. N. Tropy has alternative dialogue for when the player achieves a fast enough time in a Time Trial. Originally, the first challenge ghost tier was the "owner" of the track, denoted the Speed Champion (e.g. Crash in Crash Cove, Coco in Coco Park, Cortex in Cortex Castle, etc.), before facing Dr. N. Tropy's ghost. In the final game, only his and Nitros Oxide's ghosts are available to race against. An early implementation of the Speed Champion ghosts can be found in the August 14th, 1999 prototype.

Gameplay Voice Clips#
Additional Nitros Oxide Clips#
When hacking the game to load Nitros Oxide as the currently selected character, he features a full set of voice clips for boosting, spinning out, and catching big air. All of these lines have also been localized into the other languages.

Unused Ripper Roo Yay Clips#
Ripper Roo has two unused voice clips assigned to his "yay" samples, which are usually heard when a character boosts. However, these clips never play for Ripper Roo in the game. Instead, his "laugh taunt" clips will be triggered, which are usually heard when a character dodges an attack or hazard while protected by the Invincibility Mask or Shield. As a result, the actual "yay" samples remain unused in all versions. Since the XNF file correctly points to the intended samples, this appears to have been a deliberate decision.

Race Results Dialogue#
In the North American version, most of the characters have more lines than in the regular game, these include some grunts and, more interestingly, comments according to which place they finish the race in. Not all of these lines were recorded, however, as some are just placeholders voiced by Gavin James. Since these lines for Crash, Dingodile, and Fake Crash are missing, it is assumed that this feature was scrapped while these lines were in the process of being recorded, leaving them incomplete.

Japanese Clips#
Kurasshu Bandikū Rēshingu#
The Japanese version contains the characters announcing the title of the game, which is based on the unused announcer found in the international versions.
Unused Gem Cups Hint#
Aku Aku |
Uka Uka |
Translation |
|---|---|---|
Behind this door there are color gem challenge portals. I wonder if there are some doors left open. Don't get too nervous and finish strong. |
The Japanese version adds an extra line for Aku Aku and Uka Uka where they would have a specific hint when approaching the locked door leading to the Gem Cups. However, this release still plays the default hint telling the player that they must have 2 keys to open it, rendering the audio unused in the final game.
Sound Effects#
Bounce#
The bounce sound effect used in the previous games would play when the player bumped into a TNT crate, before being replaced with a proper sound effect.
Turtle Splash#
The turtles in Mystery Caves were supposed to feature a splashing sound effect when laying down in the water, but due to a mistake in the code, it prevents the sound from playing. The sound effect still exists in the audio files and is actually loaded within the track.
Water Splash#
A splashing sound that can be found in Crash Cove, Blizzard Bluff and Polar Pass. It was probably meant to play whenever the player fell into the water, as these are the only tracks with water in the game.
Rolling Boulder#
The rolling boulder hazard in Blizzard Bluff was supposed to feature a proper sound effect, however it didn't make it into the final game due to a mistake in the code that prevents it from playing.
Spring#
A sound effect would play when the scrapped Spring power-up is activated. It can still be heard in-game if the power-up is enabled through hacking.
Super Engine#
Super Engine originally played a sound effect when used. It can be heard in the August prototypes, but went unused in the final game.
Mask Drums#
A sound effect stored in the Adventure Mode character selection menu. Its purpose is unknown.
Pura's Purr#
The sound for Pura's purr is also stored in the Adventure Mode character selection menu, but was ultimately unused.
Zap#
A zap sound stored in the Naughty Dog box intro animation.
Ding#
An unused ding sound effect stored in the UI data along with the other menu sounds.
