Battletoads Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team (SNES)

As silly as the crossover may sound, Battletoads Double Dragon (insert ampersand or slash at your own discretion) is one of the better things to come out of Double Dragon getting the multimedia cash-cow treatment in the mid-90's.

Level Select#

At the character select screen, press Up, Down, Down, Up, X, B, Y, A. The screen will flash to indicate successful entry. Choose your character to be taken to the level select screen.

Unused Music#

The ROM offset 0xB8161-0xB8162 (in both the American and European versions) contains the music ID to be played on the title screen; changing this 16-bit value will change the title screen music. By changing this to 0x0A 0x00, unused music can be heard. In the NES, Genesis, and Game Boy versions of this game, this music was used on the character select screen. In the SNES version, the character select screen instead continues to play the title screen music.

Regional Differences#

The European version was published by Sony Electronic Publishing. As a result, this screen shows up before the rest of the licensing text (which shows in both regions in the original release).

Revisional Differences#

As was the case with the NES version, Retro-Bit re-released this game in 2023 (and followed by a Game Boy re-release in 2025), which contains some licensing changes. In addition to the updated text on the title screen, the Tradewest logo at the beginning was also removed.

1993 (Tradewest)	2023 (Retro-Bit)
