GENERAL NOTES:
These are notes for the "river maze" game being created for
www.kidsWB.com. This document contains notes about cast members, naming
conventions, version/platform specifics, etc. All notes pertaining to
the actual Lingo™ engine are contained as comments in the actual Lingo
scripts of the .dir file.
CAST MEMBERS:
All cast members are divided into sections; each begining witha a multiple
of twenty one... So, cursors begin at 1, navbar elements start at 21,
background elements start at 41, etc.
The catagories of cast members go like this* ...
01 + Scripts: All lingo scripts**
21 + Cursors: All mouse cursors.
41 + Navbar: All images used in the navigation bar.
61 + Background: All background elements(sky, sun, etc.)
81 + Environment: All images used to create the main game play
area.
101+ Map: All files for the map.
121 + Intro: All support files created for the introduction.
141 + Instructions: All support files for the instructions.
161 + Buttons: All buttons used throughout, regardless of which
section they belong in.
181 + Misc: Miscellanious files***.
* All color pallates will be listed in the appropriate categories.
** The first cast member is this readme file... the second
is a special script called "Outliner", and the third is
"SW Check"; both used for debugging. See the comments
in those two scripts for notes about their use.
*** A special text item is contained in Misc. called "Script
Report". This special item is used by the "Outline" script;
which is cast member 2. Se that cast member and it's notes for
details.
NAMING CONVENTIONS:
All names associated with cast members will be all lower case.
Scripts:
Movie Scripts: All movie scripts will be defined by the function
that they define, followd by the term "moviescript". So, the
"startmovie" event script will be called "startmovie moviescript",
"gameInit" will be called "gameinit moviescript", etc.
Sprite Scripts: All Sprite scripts will be named after the cast
member, or member group, that that sprite is associated with (at
least for the relevent duration of the script), followed by the
term "spritscript". So, if a script is associated with the compass
graphics, it will be called "compass spritescript".
Cast Scripts: All cast scripts will be named after the cast
member that the script is associated with, followed by the term
"castscript". So, if a script is associated with the cloud
graphic, it will be called "cloude castscript".
Graphics:
All graphics will be given an arbitrary name defining what they
are. So, a boat graphic might simply be called "boat".
All groups of graphics will have their individual members defined
by both a group name and a specific name, with the specific name
coming first. So, the compass graphics might devided up into
"north" and "south", and would be named "north compass" and
"south compass" respectively.
Cursors:
All cursors will be somewhat like graphics, but will end with the
term "cursor". The mask associated with each cursor will end with
the term "mask". So, there might be be a cursor made of two cast
members called "up cursor" and "up mask".
Sounds:
All sound files will be given an arbitrary descriptive name
followed by the term "sound". So, a sound cast member might be
called "bark sound".
SPRITE CHANNELS
The channel listings in this section will list all the sprites used in each section of the game. So if you wanted to know what was in a particular channel during the "game" faze of the score, you would look under "game"; which lists groups of sprite channels.
