This is a sub-page of Proto:Super Mario 3D Land.

A lot of graphics and layout files that aren't used in the E3 2011 demo can be found in the data.

Graphics

Temp Logo

Actual Logo

A much less detailed version of the logo with 仮(temporary) written on it can be found in the game. It is similar to the logo used at the game's announcement at Game Developers Conference 2011, which has a tail and lacks the "temporary" label.

TempStaffRoll#

A very primitive staff roll, containing only "制作 東京制作部"(Produced by: Tokyo Production Division and "おわり"(The End).

TempEndDemo#

A cropped version of Super Mario Galaxy 2's Wii Message Board image for when you beat the game, with a heart inserted.

MyPhotoBG#

Located in RomFS\Layout\WindowLetter.szs is an early version of the picture when Bowser kidnaps Peach. Notably, this version has text unlike the final version and Bowser's body appears to be broken as part of his mouth can be seen from his body and some green from his shell overlaps part of his shell.

A layout file showing it assembled can also be found in the proto.

Development Kit Leftovers#

Rainbow-Bordered F#

Found in RomFS\LayoutData\layout.arc is an image of a black F with a rainbow-colored border.

This image is a leftover from Nintendo’s Software Development Kit, and is used as a template image for layout files.

Binary Text Images#

A set of four images depicting 0s and 1s, found in RomFS\LayoutData\layout.arc.

These images are also leftovers from Nintendo’s Software Development Kit, and serve the same purpose as the previous image.

Super Mario Galaxy Dialogue Icon Font#

For all languages, found in RomFS\LocalizedData\\LayoutData\Font.szs is a font file named PictureFont20.bcfnt.
Interestingly enough, it features almost all of the dialogue icons from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, including some unused ones like the checkpoint flag.

Layouts

This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Is it somehow possible to display the layouts ingame? The current layout viewer tools are not accurate

CourseSelectBG#

SM3DL-E3-2011-CourseSelectBG.png
A barebones course selection screen. It can be seen in action here and is non-interactive, likely just a concept.

CourseSelectWorld#

SM3DL-Proto_CourseSelectWorld.png
World selection with actual animation and touch data, which isn't used in this proto's world map yet as it uses the above unfunctional layout instead.

Interestingly, the buttons have colours that correspond to the colour scheme of the respective world in the final version (except world 7).

CourseSelect#

SM3DL_E3_2011_CourseSelect.png
A very early course select menu from the game.

WindowLetter#

SM3DL-Proto_LetterLayout.png
Early test of the 3D letters.

SM3DL-Proto_LetterLayout_Full.png
Some graphics are unseen as they are outside the frame, including Bowser's legs.

WindowInterval#

SM3DL-Proto_WindowInterval.png
Almost identical to the final version's break message, except that the clouds are slightly different arranged and its appearing animation shows it falling from the top like the save message instead of a fade-in.

WindowConfirm#

WindowSave#
