This firmware has many differences compared to the final, some being interesting.
Differences#
- The startup logo is simply the PlayStation wordmark. The same wordmark also appears when peeling to reveal the setup screen.
- When peeling, you peel the entire screen instead of leaving a border and zooming in. The background behind is actually of the setup screen itself, which was changed to a solid color in the final. (white for the setup screen, blue everywhere else)
- Early first time setup screen with a black atmosphere.
- There are extra particle effects around the frame of the setup screen.
- First-time setup video is completely different, depicting what appears to be a PlayStation Vita prototype that uses the 0.930 firmware.
- A ding sound is heard when opening the home menu or switching pages.
- The user is not required to open Welcome Park when opening the home menu for the first time after setup, as it is not present in this firmware, despite it being there in 0.930.
- The notification bubble is not attached to the corner of the screen.
- The animation when clicking on app icons is slower.
- The sound when tapping on a button is different.
- There is no sound when opening an application.
- The icons for the settings categories have a wrench icon in the corner, much like the PSP and PS3.
- The wave background is different.
- Completely different app icons and LiveArea graphics.
- Japanese translations for app names were not made yet.
Lock Screen Graphic#
This is the first firmware to include the lock screen image. It is the black XMB wave from the PlayStation 3. This would later be changed to an earlier version of the release lock screen in firmware 0.995.070.
It contains a steganographic image of Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII, which can be seen if you boost the contrast and brightness of the image, as seen below.
Early Music#
There is a slightly different version of the home menu music. It is an ATRAC9 file named home.at9 and it is located in vs0:data\internal\bgm\shell.
This is also true for the music for the near app. The file, named bgm001.at9, is located in vs0:app\NPXS10000 instead of vs0:data\internal\bgm\shell named near.at9 alongside the other ATRAC9 files like the final.
Early Bootscreen#
This is the first firmware to include a boot screen. It is a normal PlayStation logo in white. This bootscreen appears in vs0:vsh/shell/coldboot_plugin.rco
