This is a sub-page of Proto:Plants vs. Zombies 3.

To do:

  • There are images for a new map called Tropical Cave-In.
  • Add Bungee Zombie, Landscaper Zombie, and Swinging Zombies

Unused Graphics#

Early Lychee Seed Packet#

A seed packet for the plant Lychee exists in this version, who would later be added in the March 2024 update. This is different from the final seed packet, as all seed packets ended up getting changed by the soft launch.

Early Umbrella Leaf Seed Packet#

A seed packet for Umbrella Leaf, who officially first appeared in the 2024 soft launch, also exists in this build. Like Lychee, it is also different from its final seed packet.

Early Swinging Zombie#

A placeholder sprite for the Swinging Zombies that would appear in later versions of the game.

Red Sun#

An image of red sun from Plants vs. Zombies 2 exists in this demo.

Summer#

PvZ3_Summer_Default.png PvZ3_Summer_Excited.png

Sprites for a new character named Summer, who doesn't exist in the game yet.

Unused Text#

Tutorial Messages#

Demo Welcome Message#

An unused welcome message for a dev demo of the game, which would bring you to a track featuring Bamboo Shoots, Cabbage-Pult and Volcano mechanics. It's part of a tutorial message named "Welcome (DEMO ONLY)".

Use the "Head to FEEDBACK TRACK" button to get a sneak peak at M24 content.
This demo shows off a WIP Bamboo Shoots and Cabbage-Pult, as well as mechanics created for the Volcano biome.

Level 85 Intro#

An unused tutorial message for level 85, which doesn't exist in this build as the levels only go up to level 50.

Outsmart those pesky zombies by leading them right into your traps!

Unused Dialogue#

Text for scrapped dialogue between various characters exist, including dialogue from Summer.

Day 1#

TASK_1A-1_DIALOGUE

Text for an early version of Day 1's first task's dialogue. This seems to go with other unused data about the plot for day 1 being to solve the murder of Wall-Nut. The string for it is just "TASK_1A-1_DIALOGUE_1", so it's unknown who is saying it. A task by the name of "Test - Conversation Cutscene" uses this text and has Peashooter as the speaker, although it's unknown if it actually is Peashooter or if he was used as a placeholder character.

Speaker

Dialogue

Unknown

We found Wallnut! ... but it's not good...

Meet Sunny

Text for what likely was the intended version to be the first task's dialogue. It features Sunny, a Sunflower who appears in the game on level 3.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
Hiya, I'm Sunny! If you haven't guessed it already, I'm a sunflower.

Sunny:
Normally sunflowers face the sun, but I thought it would be easier to make my own. Weird right? Try not to think too hard about it...

Sunny:
Well, no time to chat I guess. Let's get out there and kick some zom-behind!

Talk to Sunny

A continuation of the previous dialogue for the second task.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
Good job with those zombies! Can you believe Dave, trying to tell me how plant biology works. The nerve!

Sunny:
I'll make sun if I want to. He's just jealous because he can't create tacos from nothing.

Sunny:
Tacos are like sun to people, ya?

End Day 1

Unused ending dialogue for Day 1 from Dave.

Speaker

Dialogue

Dave:
The zombies seem to have tuckered themselves out, poor little tikes. Don't worry, they'll be back tomorrow.

Day 2#

Meet Summer

Early dialogue for the second task for Day 2, featuring the unused character Summer.

Speaker

Dialogue

Summer:
Hi, I'm Summer. I just moved in to town, great to meet you. Still getting settled in, but I'm sure we'll be great friends.

Talk to Summer and her friend

Early dialogue for the third task of Day 2, with a conversation between Summer and a Peashooter. A test conversation for this dialogue named "Test - Character Cutscene - Task 2B-2" exists, in which Summer is replaced by a Basic Zombie.

Speaker

Dialogue

Summer:
Look at this little cutey. Do you… grow these here?

Peashooter:
I'm no cutey! I'm a rootin' tootin' pea-shootin' …
something that ends in -ootin'.

Summer:
Aaah! He thinks he's mean. I love that!

Meet Douglas

Early dialogue for the fourth task of Day 2. The first two lines of this ended up getting reused for the first task of Day 3 in the final build.

Speaker

Dialogue

Douglas:
Well howdy! Name's Douglas Fir. But most of my friends call me squeak squeak whistle whistle.

Douglas:
Of course most of my friends are forest critters. You can just call me Douglas.

Douglas:
I don't come in to town much, just needed some supplies.

Talk to Douglas and his friend

Early dialogue for the fifth task of Day 2, with a conversation between Douglas and Wall-Nut.

Speaker

Dialogue

Douglas:
I like the cut of your jib, fella! You're the strong silent type, just like me.

Wall-Nut:
smiles obliviously

Douglas:
Exactly what I was thinking! It's like we're sharing one brain over here.

See what Peashooter and WallNut are up to

Early dialogue for the sixth task of Day 2, featuring a conversation between Peashooter and Wall-Nut where Wall-Nut actually talks, unlike in the final demo.

Speaker

Dialogue

Peashooter:
Ok, just hold still... I need to practice this shot.

Wall-Nut:
Sure thing! Holding still!

Peashooter:
Ready… Aim… F-

Catch up with Patrice and Sunny

Early dialogue for the seventh task of Day 2.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
Patrice!

Sunny:
We go way back. Patrice is one of my best friends!

End Day 2

Unused ending dialogue for Day 2.

Speaker

Dialogue

Dave:
Ah, another peaceful sunset. The birds are back in their nests, the squirbos are back in their squirbo-dens...

Dave:
...the zombies are back in that big smelly pile they sleep in.

Dave:
If it wasn't for the constant threat of having your brains eaten, it would have been a perfect day.

Day 3#

Help Patrice Find Her Way

Early dialogue for the second task of Day 3. This dialogue ended up being changed to be spoked by Mo. The lines for Patrice ended up being overwritten by her lines in the final conversation.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
Gang, I've definitely seen that tree before. This is at least the 4th time.

Sunny:
Because I've known him since I was a seedling. His name's Ponderosa.

Sunny:
Fun fact, he's actually a piñon pine, named for his great-great-uncle. Want to guess what kind of tree he was?

Sunny:
Oh right, good point. If it helps, about an hour ago Ponderosa told me Douglas is just through there.

Sunny:
We were having fun. Oh and Patrice…

Sunny:
His uncle was a ponderosa.

Tell Ghost Stories

A single line from Patrice for an early version of the fourth task. The context of this line is unknown, as other text ended up getting replaced by text for the final task 4 conversation, although she is likely talking about Summer.

Speaker

Dialogue

Patrice:
Can you head back and get her?

Bring Summer to the Campout

Early dialogue for the seventh task of Day 3.

Speaker

Dialogue

Patrice:
Summer! You made it!

Patrice:
Thank goodness you're here. I was acting brave for Sunny, but I would have freaked out alone in my tent.

Summer:
It's so nice out here! Thanks again for walking with me.

Summer:
Ooh! Is that a piñon pine? We must be getting close.

Summer:
And I brought marshmallows!

Set-up the Campsite

Early dialogue for the eighth task of Day 3. All that exists for this are lines from Squash and Bamboo Shoots, as the dialogue for the other characters was overwritten.

Speaker

Dialogue

Squash:
Dibs on pounding in the stakes!

Squash:
You watch out for your toes. I have a job to do.

Bamboo Shoots:
Did someone say FIRE!?

Gather Firewood

Early dialogue for the ninth task with a conversation between Summer and Bonk Choy.

Speaker

Dialogue

Summer:
Thanks for helping Bonk!

Bonk Choy:
Well, I am super-strong, and I got these arms.

Summer:
Isn't it weird though, that we're burning plants?

Bonk Choy:
Whadya mean?

Summer:
Well, you're a plant…

Bonk Choy:
Oh… hmm… never really thought of it.

Bonk Choy:
Probably best if you don't either.

Summer:
Oh, sure, if you say so.

End Day 3

Unused ending dialogue for Day 3.

Speaker

Dialogue

Squash:
Pass me another s'more!

Sunny:
You're going to make yourself sick.

Squash:
Nah, I'm bulking. I need to be in top zombie-squashing shape.

Patrice:
Just glad he's not sleeping in my tent.

Summer:
Speaking of, I'm getting pretty tired.

Douglas:
We should all get to bed soon. We're up at sunrise for a 5-mile hike.

Day 4#

Where's Wall-Nut?

Early dialogue for the first task of Day 4, where Patrice's line was originally said by Peashooter. There's also another line from Summer responding to an unknown question.

Speaker

Dialogue

Peashooter:
Thought he was with you…

Summer:
Nope, but I have to get back home, I'll keep an eye out.

Look for Clues

Early dialogue for the second task of Day 4. All that exists are lines from Sunny, as lines from the other characters were overwritten.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
I think I found something!

Sunny:
These look distinctly like walnut tracks.

Sunny:
And they're heading towards Mt. Quesogrande.

Sunny:
That's the one!

Trail to the Volcano

Early dialogue for the third task of Day 4. Patrice has a missing line of dialogue as it was overwritten by her line in the final conversation.

Speaker

Dialogue

Bonk Choy:
That volcano doesn't scare me…

Bonk Choy:
It's nothing a good one-two punch can't solve.

Patrice:
You can't punch a volcano.

Bonk Choy:
You can't punch a volcano. I can punch anything.

Search the Volcano

Early dialogue for the fourth task of Day 4. All that exists are lines from Sunny.

Speaker

Dialogue

Sunny:
Look, the walnut tracks lead up the mountain.

Sunny:
Dunno, but looks like Wall-Nut isn't alone.

Sunny:
Only one way to find out. We need to question a zombie.

Capture Zombie

An unused line from Patrice and Squash for the fifth task of Day 4. Patrice's line ended up being changed to be said by Douglas.

Speaker

Dialogue

Squash:
There's one stuck between those boulders over there.

Patrice:
A perfectly executed plan!

Question Zombie

Early dialogue for the sixth task of Day 4 where it was originally a conversation between Peashooter and Silversword.

Speaker

Dialogue

Peashooter:
Alright tough stuff, where's the nut?!

Silversword:
He's up that slope.

Peashooter:
You speak Zombish?

Silversword:
Well, yes, actually. Studied it at university, but that's beside the point.

Silversword:
Did you not notice the aggressive gesturing toward that hill?

Peashooter:
I... can't look up. It's my greatest shame.

Wall-nut is in Hot Water!

An unused line of dialogue from Chili Bean for the seventh task of Day 4.

Speaker

Dialogue

Chili Bean:
This isn't a hot tub.... Pfft!

End Day 4

Two unused lines from the final task of Day 4, one being from Summer and one being a slightly earlier version of Patrice's last line.

Speaker

Dialogue

Summer:
I haven't seen him at all since I got back.

Patrice:
Oh no! Uncle Dave was actually the one in trouble this whole time. We have to find him!
